Enrollment slightly less in LawCo.

First-day school enrollment in Lawrence County schools was slightly less this year with 3,140 students compared to last year's total of 3,193 students.

Sloan-Hendrix's first day enrollment total on Monday was 640, down 37 students from last year.

Lawrence County School District enrollment was 1,117 students on both campuses. The Walnut Ridge Campus had 805 students and the Black Rock campus had 312. Last year's enrollment was 1,076 students, giving the district an increase of 41 students.

Freer crowned Miss LawCo.

Emily Freer was crowned 2011 Miss Lawrence County Saturday evening at the Bill McCurley Gymnasium at Imboden.

WR Council discusses equipment,
employees' benefit fund provider

Walnut Ridge City Councilmen will pursue the possibility of renaming a portion of a city street in conjunction with the future location of The Beatles' sculpture in the downtown area. The council also voted to purchase new equipment for the Street Department and will change the carrier of the city's benefit fund.
