Gatlin James Colburn

James and Jill Colburn of Hoxie have announced the birth of a son on July 17, 2011, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center. The baby weighed seven pounds, 14 ounces, and has been named Gatlin James Colburn.

He has two sisters, Lily Colburn, four, and Brooke Colburn, two.

Grandparents are Sammy and Kathy Colburn and Steve and Luann Jones, all of Hoxie. He is the great-grandson of Darrell and Marilyn Colburn of Walnut Ridge, Barbie Cover of McCrory and T.Z. and Lula Belle Jones of Egypt.

Abel Martin Langston

Kerry and Jessica Langston of Swifton have announced the birth of a son on July 20, 2011, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed seven pounds, nine ounces, and has been named Abel Martin Langston.

Grandparents are Bo and Connie Langston of Powhatan, Kim and Mike Rice of Houston and Denny Meeker of Smithville.

Jesse Steve Cook

Jesse Steve Cook, 88, of Pine Bluff, father of Rev. Steve Randall Cook of Walnut Ridge, died July 25, 2011, at North Metro Medical Center in Jacksonville. Rosella Mae Davis

Rosella Mae Holderman Davis, 91, of Walnut Ridge, went home to be with the Lord Thursday evening, July 28, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born June 2, 1920, at Black Rock, she was the daughter of Roy Harold and Hattie Belle Miller Holderman. She had lived in Walnut Ridge for 31 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the LHS Auxiliary and Gethsemane Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Willard Davis, on Sept. 11, 1982, whom she married June 1, 1940; two sons, Willard Harold Davis and Jarred Lee Davis; three sisters, Lillian Cude, Edith Chaney Morris and Agness White; and two grandsons, Deron Raney and Jeffery Spears Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Anita Rose Hardage and husband Raymond, Dalton, and Rita Arnold, Walnut Ridge; a son, Hershal Davis and wife Georgetta, Greenville, Texas; eight grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral was Monday at 11 a.m. at Higginbotham Funeral Service with Rev. Randy Bailey officiating. Burial was in Old Lebanon Cemetery at Lynn.

Grandsons and nephews were honored to serve as her pallbearers.

Misty Hamilton

Misty Jackson Hamilton, 48, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died July 30, 2011, at the Jackson family home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Sept. 3, 1962, she was a former resident of Portia.

Survivors include her parents, Edgar and Ruth Jackson, Cape Girardeau; and an aunt, Velma Rainwater, Hot Springs.

Funeral is Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Gospel Church with Revs. Dottie Williams and Joyce Matters officiating. Burial will be in Dry Creek Cemetery at Lynn under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.

Kim Kingcade

Kim Kingcade, 55, of Smithville, died Aug. 1, 2011, at his home.

Born May 11, 1956, in Rockford, Ill., he moved to Lawrence County 16 years ago and was a member of the Eaton Church of Christ. He was retired from the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Persian Gulf war.

He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Kingcade; and a grandson, Lane Wyatt Nichols.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Hill Kingcade; a son, Brent Kingcade and wife Ami, Pocahontas; two daughters, Holly Muniz and husband Bobby, Little Rock, and Melissa Nichols and husband Robert, Brookland; his mother, Oleta Kingcade, Lynn; and three grandchildren, Savannah Kingcade, Rue Muniz and Ethan Nichols.

Funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Luther Jones officiating. Burial will be in Markham Cemetery near Egypt.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Smith, Terry Colburn, Rodney Shultz, Joe Huskey, Larry Forrester and Tommy Boles.

Barbara Jean Coats Winnett Marcum

Barbara Jean Coats Winnett Marcum, 68, of Pittsburg, Texas, sister of Kenneth Coats of Smithville, died July 30, 2011, at her home. Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at the Lebanon Baptist Church in Nelsonville. Burial will be in Spotts Cemetery at Poughkeepsie under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Matthew Mullen

Matthew Ross "Matt" Mullen, 28, of Portia, died July 29, 2011, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born May 21, 1983, he was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County and worked for Dish Network. He attended church at John 3:16 ministries and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his fiancée, Gina Rorex of Portia, whom he would have married on Sept. 24; his father, Dan Mullen and wife Naomi, Walnut Ridge; his mother, Sharon Lakey-Jean and husband Roger, Hot Springs; a sister, Sara Scott and husband Ryan, Fayetteville; a stepsister, Leslie Kaiser and husband Frank, Wiley, Texas; a stepbrother, Billy Sexton, Jonesboro; his grandparents, Bob and Betty Bates, Hot Springs; and a nephew, Will Scott.

A celebration of his life was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Sharum Gymnasium in Walnut Ridge with Jerry Clements and Bryan Tuggle officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Houston Hart, Jeff Ball, Joey McNeal, Adam Farley, Shane Blevins and Zach Callahan. Honorary pallbearers were all his brothers at John 3:16.
