Derek and Chasity Farrar of Hoxie have announced the birth of a daughter, born July 20, 2011, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed seven pounds, four ounces, and has been named Caleigh Renee Farrar. She has one brother, Caleb Robert Farrar.

Grandparents are Donna Farrar of Cordova, Tenn., Kevin and Kim Turner of Paragould and Lawanda Sullivan of Black Rock.

Great-grandparents are Terry and Faye Sullivan of Black Rock and Robert and Marie Davis of Hoxie.

Harris ~ Smith

Mark and Joan Harris of Walnut Ridge, formerly of Warren, have announced the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Jennifer Nicole Harris, to Timothy Matthew Smith, son of Jim and Mary Jon Wells and Tim and DeeDee Smith, all of Hamburg.

The bride-elect is a 2005 graduate of Hamburg High School and a 2010 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello School of Nursing. She is employed as a registered nurse at Chicot Memorial Medical Center in Lake Village.

The prospective groom is a 2004 graduate of Hamburg High School. He attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology in Crossett and is employed by Evers and Whatley Electric Company in El Dorado.

The couple will exchange vows on Sept. 10, 2011, at Portland Baptist Church, located at 109 Hwy. 160 West in Portland, at 2 p.m. All friends and family are invited to attend.

Strong ~ Constantine

Dana and Waynoma Strong of Walnut Ridge have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Conna Marie Strong, to Jonathon James Constantine, son of Pat Constantine of Oswego, Ill., and the late Ralph Constantine.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Kenneth and Donna Roberts of O'Kean, the late Gerold and Wilma Johnson and the late Paul and Mary Strong.

She is a graduate of Hoxie High School and Williams Baptist College and is employed as a paraprofessional at Nettleton High School.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Robert and Marilyn Constantine of Oswego, Ill., and Joan Marshall of Oswego, Ill., and the late Jim Marshall.

He is employed as a mechanic at Cavenaugh's.

The couple will exchange vows on Sept. 3, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the United Free Will Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

All family and friends are invited to attend.

A drop-in bridal shower will be held for the bride on Sunday at the United Free Will Baptist Church from 2-4 p.m.

Wolf ~ Crouch

Laura Alison Blakeney Wolf and Keith Daniel Crouch have announced their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-elect is the daughter of David Blakeney of Pocahontas and the late Robin Hicks Blakeney.

She is the granddaughter of Pat Hicks of Walnut Ridge and the late Robert Hicks and the late Byron and Norma Jean Blakeney.

Ali is a 1999 Hoxie High School graduate and is employed at Old Navy in Jonesboro.

The prospective groom is the son of Linda Crouch of Maynard and the late Rick Crouch.

He is the grandson of betty Getson of Pocahontas and the late Tommy Getson and Christine Johnson of Maynard and the late Gene Crouch.

Keith is a 2003 graduate of Maynard High School and is employed at Blackadder Farms.

The couple will exchange vows on Aug. 20, at the residence of Blake and Carla James in Ravenden Springs. A reception will follow the ceremony at the residence. All family and friends are invited to attend the ceremony and reception.

Following a honeymoon to Eureka Springs, the couple will reside in Walnut Ridge.

Sam Burton

Sam Burton, 45, of Walnut Ridge, died July 23, 2011, at his home.

Born Aug. 24, 1965, in Rockford, Ill., he attended the Black River Technical College Law Enforcement Training Course in 2007 and worked for the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Hazel Ridenhower Burton; and a brother, Ronnie Brewer.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Burton; two daughters, Adyssia Burton and Angel Burton, both of the home; a son, Sammy Burton Jr., of the home; a sister, Eugenia Sanchez, Rockford, Ill.; three brothers, Douglas Brewer, Randy Brewer and Bradly Brewer, all of Tulsa, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews he loved dearly.

The body will be cremated. A private service will be held at a later date. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Jewell Couch

Jewell Couch, 93, of Portia, died July 21, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The daughter of John and Mattie Middlecoff Jones, she lived in Lawrence County most of her life and attended the Assembly of God Church in Portia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Couch; a daughter, Lydia Couch; two sons, Jerry Couch and Carroll Couch; two brothers, Roscoe Jones and Otto Jones; and three sisters, Beulah Dobbs, Caroline Baker and Ruth Crockett.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Couch and wife Beverly, Portia, and Roger Couch and wife Donna, Delaplaine; a daughter, Karen Light and husband Gary, Minturn; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Rick Hart officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ronald E. Dobbs

Ronald E. Dobbs, 61, of Fairfield Bay, died July 20, 2011.

Born Jan. 14, 1950, in Walnut Ridge, he was a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School and received an Associate of Arts degree from Southern Baptist College. He attended Arkansas State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971 and a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976.

After teaching for two years, he worked in the insurance business as a loss consultant for 35 years, serving several companies, including Farmer's Insurance Group, Sentry Insurance, Integral Insurance, John Deere Insurance and Deep South Insurance.

He was a member of Fairfield Bay Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon at Little Rock's First Baptist Church. He also served as a board member for the Arkansas Baptist School System.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Bellingrath Dobbs, whom he married in 1972; and his father, Fred Edward Dobbs; and a brother, Gerald T. Dobbs.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Slaughter Dobbs, whom he married in 2006; his mother, Madgie Ione Scarlett, Longview, Texas; three sons, Matthew Edward Dobbs, Michael Bellingrath Dobbs and Jonathan Blake Dobbs; three stepdaughters, Machelle Johnson and husband Daris, Bridgette Peek, and Raquenta Garrett and husband Mike; and six grandchildren, Gabby, Ben, Alex, Megan, Derek and Faith.

Funeral was Friday at 10 a.m. at the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church with pastor Ken Reece officiating. Burial was in Pine Crest Memorial Park at Alexander. Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Clinton had charge of arrangements.

Harold Dean Finn

Harold Dean Finn, 74, of Rogers, died July 15, 2011, at his home. Survivors include his wife, Norma Walker Finn, formerly of Strawberry. David W. Richmond

David W. Richmond, 51, of Lynn, died July 21, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 22, 1959, in Newport.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Richmond.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Richmond, Lynn; several half-brothers, half-sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Lois Scott

Lois Caroline Scott, 90, of Walnut Ridge, died July 23, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 20, 1921, in the Oak Hill community, she was the daughter of Frank and Alma Smith Britton of Fontaine.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyde, Hugh, Walter and Eugene; and three sisters, Jessie, Lola and Eunice.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Loyde Scott; a brother, Bud Britton, North Carolina; and two sisters, Mary Fielder, Walnut Ridge, and Imojean Mangrum, Cherokee Village.

Graveside service was Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Lorado Cemetery with Ted Bellar officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Woodrow Tillman Slagley

Woodrow Tillman Slagley, 92, of Swifton, died July 21, 2011, at Swifton.

Born April 5, 1919, in Tuckerman, he was the son of Wylie Slagley and Mary Ann Williford.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred Slagley, Johnny "J.W." Slagley and Shelby Slagley.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Emogene Hendrix Slagley, whom he married April 3, 1943; three sons, David Slagley, Tillman Slagley and Greg Slagley; five daughters, Joann Slavin, Betty Webster, Willie Baker, Mary Jane Faulhaber and Cynthia Buchanan; a brother, Wylie Slagley; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at Swifton First Assembly of God Church. Burial was in Swifton Cemetery under the direction of Dillinger Funeral Home of Newport.

Martha JoAnn Taylor

Martha JoAnn Taylor, 74, of Edgewood, N.M., formerly of Walnut Ridge, went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2011.

Born Oct. 1, 1936, in Lepanto, she had lived in Lawrence County most of her life and was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Taylor; her parents, Wilson and Gladys Carter; a son-in-law, David Schoby; and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Schoby, Edgewood, N.M., and Jennifer Woods and husband Danny, Clover Bend; a son, Don Taylor, Edgewood, N.M.; two sisters, Bobbi Anglin, Hoxie, and Betty Housdan, Conway; a brother, David Carter, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two grandchildren, Dustin Woods and Taylor Woods, both of Clover Bend; and her best friend, Pat Westmoreland, Mammoth Spring.

A visitation will be held Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.

Geneva D. Waldrup

Geneva D. Waldrup, 92, of Florissant, Mo., died July 12, 2011, at Mark Twain Manor.

Born Jan. 20, 1919, in West Plains, Mo., she was the daughter of Lillie Burr Anderson. She lived in Walnut Ridge for 29 years before moving to Florissant 15 years ago. She was a pastry cook and had worked at the Davy Crockett restaurant for several years. She was a protestant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Waldrup, in 1965; and a son, Eddie Waldrup.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Warnick, Jonesboro, and Wilma Sue New, Florissant, Mo.; three sons, Roy Waldrup, Breckenridge, Mo., Leon Waldrup, DeSoto, Mo., and Larry Waldrup, Florissant, Mo.; three brothers, Walter Anderson, James Anderson and Tommy Anderson, all of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a sister, Zella Mae Cox, St. Louis; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday, July 15, at Hutchens Mortuary in Florissant, Mo. Burial was Thursday at Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

Mary Ellen Williams

Mary Ellen Williams, 73, of Walnut Ridge, died July 20, 2011.

A lifelong resident of Lawrence County, she was a homemaker and attended First Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Thelma Walker Midgett; a sister, Carol Finley; and a granddaughter, Amber Flock.

Survivors include two daughters, Kim Maxie, Hoxie, and Gail Mitchell, Walnut Ridge; a brother, Jimmy Midgett, Hoxie; three grandchildren, Matthew Flock, Dustin Stephenson and Dylan Maxie; and a great-grandchild.

Graveside service was Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Warner Allen officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Robert Willmuth

Robert Willmuth, 53, of Strawberry, died July 20, 2011.

Born Oct. 20, 1957, in Flint, Mich., he was the son of Carroll and Oletha Thacker Willmuth. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife, Kaye Crock Willmuth; two daughters, Amanda Taegtmeyer, Sikeston, Mo., and Amie Willmuth, Cave City; a son, Robert Andrew Willmuth, Cave City; a sister, Carol Wooldridge, Carmel, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Haley Willmuth, Haley Garrett and Dylan Garrett.

Edith Irene Woodson

Edith Irene Woodson, 103, of Sterling, Ill., formerly of Walnut Ridge, died July 24, 2011, at Sterling Community General Hospital.

She was a homemaker and attended Midway Assembly of God Church in Walnut Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Woodson; a son, James Woodson; two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Billy Woodson and wife Jewel, Illinois; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

No visitation is scheduled.
