Editor
Races have developed for two school board positions, according to County Clerk Tina Stowers.
The filing period for school board elections closed Friday at noon. There will be a four-way race for the Lawrence County position, and two are seeking election to the Hoxie board.
Incumbents John Bland, Lawrence County School Board, and Robert Pratt, Hoxie School Board, chose not to seek re-election.
Candidates for the Lawrence County School Board are: John Householder, Blake Cox, Billy Lee Baker and Cary G. Massey, all of Walnut Ridge.
Jeff Worlow of Sedgwick and Kenny Lewis of Hoxie will vie for the Hoxie position.
Incumbents Dr. Roger Helms, Hillcrest School District, and Dr. Aaron Murphy, Sloan-Hendrix School District, sought re-election and are unopposed.
Drawing for ballot positions will be held today at 1 p.m. in the conference room of the Lawrence County Courthouse. Candidates and the public are welcome to attend.
The election will be held on Sept. 20.
