School board filing
period opens Friday

The filing period for school board elections will open Friday at noon and continue through next Friday, July 22, at noon.

Candidates can return their petitions to the County Clerk's Office in the Lawrence County Courthouse in Walnut Ridge during that time.

Individuals whose terms expire this year are as follows: Hillcrest School District, Dr. Roger Helms; Hoxie School District, Robert Pratt; Lawrence County School District, John Bland; and Sloan-Hendrix School District, Dr. Aaron Murphy.

Petitions require at least 20 signatures from registered voters in the school district. If the district is zoned, the signatures must come from within the zone that is up for election.

Petitions are available at the County Clerk's Office.
