Gala to raise funds, awarenessThe Children's Shelter of Walnut Ridge will host a Summer Gala on July 14 to raise money for the shelter and awareness of its ongoing monetary needs.
The event will be held at the Republican Headquarters, located on Main Street in Walnut Ridge, and will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 each, with only 160 available.
"We are in need of monetary donations to keep the shelter open," said Lisa Hufstedler, administrator of the Children's Shelter.
"We rely on donations to pay staff and provide for the day-to-day needs of all our kids. Most people do not realize that we house children from all over Arkansas."
The shelter celebrated its second year of service on June 1 and has been home to more than 340 children from 24 counties in Arkansas, including Lawrence, Craighead, Greene, Independence, Izard, Randolph and Poinsett counties.
The atmosphere at the gala will be vintage southern, and attendees are asked to dress in summer cocktail attire.
A dinner of heavy hors d'houevres will be provided by Godsey's Grill in Jonesboro, and both live and silent auctions will be held. Items to be auctioned include a fishing trip and night's stay at Buck Hollow Ranch, a garden sculpture by Sarah Howell, Arkansas Razorback football tickets donated by Milton Smith and a movie night for six at Faultline Studios.
Dancing will be held after the auctions. To purchase tickets or to make a donation contact the staff at The Children's Shelter of Walnut Ridge at 886-5191 or email email@example.com. More information can also be found by searching "Summer Gala, Children's Shelter" on Facebook.
