Two road projects plannedThe Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened bids for improvements to roadways in Lawrence County, according to Commission Vice Chairman John Ed Regenold of Armorel and Lawrence County Judge Dale Freeman.
The first project will resurface four miles of Highway 412, near Walnut Ridge. Atlas Asphalt, Inc. of Jonesboro was awarded the contract at $477,830.16.
"These improvements will begin at Highway 67 and continue eastward," stated Regenold.
The purpose of the second project is to resurface selected sections of approximately two miles of County Road 520, south of Hoxie. Atlas Asphalt, Inc. of Jonesboro was also awarded the contract at $219,992.20.
"This project is going to begin at Highway 67 and continue to the west," stated Judge Freeman.
Regenold noted that the county road project is funded through the State Aid Road Program established by the legislature and administered by the State Aid Division of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. This program provides approximately $20 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist counties with projects of their choosing on the county road system.
Regenold said work could begin on the projects in two to four weeks, weather permitting. Improvements to Highway 412 will be completed in late October of this year. Completion is expected in the summer of this year on County Road 520.
