Chamber to fill new positionGretchen HuntEditor The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce has begun accepting applications for a new part-time economic development associate, according to Chamber Board Chair Mike Montgomery. The person who fills the position, which will require 20 hours of service weekly, will help achieve economic development goals for the county. "This part-time position is responsible for working closely with the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, the county judge, mayors within the county and the Economic Development Committee, as well as other town staff, in promoting the business and economic development interests within the county," the job description states. For the past several years, the only paid position at the Chamber has been that of executive secretary. All others working for the Chamber have been doing so as volunteers. Montgomery said the Chamber Board, as well as elected officials, believe the timing is right for adding the new position. "We need to be proactive if we want to be able to capitalize on the opportunities our county has," Montgomery said. A formal job description can be requested by calling Kathy Bradley at 886-3232 or through e-mail at lawrencecofc@suddenlinkmail.com. Resumes can also be e-mailed to that address and are due by June 3.
