Lady Cats complete seasonNathan HibbardStaff Writer The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats saw their softball season end with a 10-0 loss to Salem's Lady Greyhounds in the 2A North Regional Tournament on May 6 at Marked Tree. Beth Massey and Ashton Lawson had Walnut Ridge's only hits of the game. The Lady Bobcats ended the season with a record of 13 wins and nine losses.
Walnut Ridge advanced to the regional tournament by virtue of a 16-5 victory over Marked Tree on May 4 at Stewart Park. Weather conditions forced the 2A-3 District Tournament to be shortened. Marmaduke and Riverside were awarded the conference's top two seeds in the regional tournament, while the remaining teams played an abbreviated schedule to determine the third and fourth regional seeds. Against Marked Tree, Britney Dobbs led the Lady Cats' at the plate, going 2-for-3 and scoring a pair of runs. Ashley Baker had a hit and scored four runs, and Amanda Emison scored three runs. Beth Massey had a hit and scored two runs. Christin Holsapple had a hit and scored one run. Lawson, Sabrina Knight, Hannah Massey and Ashlyn Cothern each scored a run. Hannah Massey earned the win from the pitching circle. The win qualified the Lady Bobcats as the fourth seed.
