Hillcrest boys clinch titleNathan HibbardStaff Writer The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles baseball team clinched the 1A-2 East conference baseball title with a doubleheader sweep of conference opponent Black Rock on April 18 at Strawberry. Hillcrest won the first game 8-1, as Tyler Parker and Dylan Wooten each blasted three-run homers. Hunter Nunnally also had a pair of hits. The Eagles also capitalized on four Zebra errors. Wooten was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits and registering 12 Ks. Joe Paul Carey had a solo home run for Black Rock.
Hillcrest completed the sweep with an 11-4 victory in the second game. Hillcrest scored all of their runs in an 11-run outburst in the second inning, overcoming a 4-0 Zebra lead. Parker earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits and striking out five. Carey had two hits for the Zebras. Hillcrest will host the 2A East District Baseball Tournament on May 2-3 at Strawberry. |
