Lady Cats sweep BICNathan HibbardStaff Writer Sabrina Knight had seven hits and scored five runs on the day, as Walnut Ridge swept a softball doubleheader from Buffalo Island Central on Friday at Stewart Park. The Lady Bobcats took the opener 13-6 and the second game 14-2. In the first game, Knight was 4-for-4 at plate and scored three runs. Ashton Lawson was 2-for-2 and scored a run. Beth Massey and Amanda Emison had two hits and scored two runs apiece. Brittney Dobbs had a hit and scored two runs. Ashley Baker had one hit and scored a run. Christin Holsapple scored two runs, and Ashlyn Cothern had a hit. Hannah Massey was the winning pitcher.
Walnut Ridge completed the sweep with a 14-2 victory in five innings. Knight batted 3-for-3 and scored two runs. Beth Massey had a hit and scored three runs. Baker had a hit and scored two runs, and Whitney Ward scored three runs. Hannah Massey again took the win in the circle, improving her record to 10-7 on the season. Walnut Ridge improved to 8-6 in 2A-3 conference play and 12-8 overall.
Rector's Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Cats 11-1 in conference action on Thursday at Rector. Holsapple had a pair of hits and scored Walnut Ridge's only run. Beth Massey and Ashley Baker also had two hits each. Knight and Dobbs had one hit apiece.
The Riverside Lady Rebels edged Walnut Ridge 6-4 in the first game of a conference softball doubleheader on April 18 at Lake City. Riverside completed the sweep with a 12-4 win in the nightcap. For the two games, Beth Massey had five hits and scored two runs. Knight had two hits and scored a run. Lawson had two hits and scored twice, while Dobbs had a hit and scored a run.
