Water rises throughout LawCo.

Lawrence County residents are finding out once again just how destructive water can be, as repeated storm systems have caused flooding along all rivers in the county.

The area received rainfall ranging from four to six inches Sunday and Monday, with another three to five inches predicted for Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.

Tuesday the Black River was already nearing record flood levels, with more rain predicted and flood waters continuing to come downstream. At noon, the river was at 30.2 feet and expected to reach 31 feet by 1 a.m.

Chamber to add position for economic development

The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce has decided to move forward with efforts to create a new part-time economic development position for the county.

Bids on a Bell OH-58A helicopter owned by the city of Walnut Ridge were opened at a special council meeting on Thursday.

The Walnut Ridge Airport was again the place to be on Saturday for Beatle fans and those who saw The Beatles change planes there in September 1964.

Accident claims life

A Smithville man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Independence County on Friday at 1:39 p.m., according to a report from the Arkansas State Police.
