WR edges EPC
Staff Writer The Walnut Ridge Bobcats edged East Poinsett County 3-1 in 2A-3 conference baseball action on Thursday at Lepanto. Walnut Ridge took an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. EPC tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second. The Bobcats regained the lead in the fourth inning when Tyler Dickson scored on double steal. Walnut Ridge added an insurance run in the seventh inning. Payton Poole doubled, stole third and scored on a defensive error on a ball hit by Rowdy Ditto. Range Weeks pitched a two-hitter and struck out six to earn the win on the mound.
The Bobcats needed just five innings to hammer Buffalo Island Central 14-1 on April 12 at Stewart Park. BIC scored its run in the top of the first inning to take a brief 1-0 lead. Walnut Ridge responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Bobcats went on to add four runs in the third inning and seven in the fourth. Teague Phillips went 3-for-4, with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Chris Dickson and Poole each batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Eric Wilcoxson was 2-for-4. Tyler Dickson and Clay Hufstedler each had a hit and an RBI. Zach Carson and Ditto each had a hit for Walnut Ridge. Carson earned the win on the mound. He allowed the Mustangs one run on just two hits, while striking out two.
