Hillcrest girls win one, lose oneNathan HibbardStaff Writer Cedar Ridge capitalized on three Hillcrest errors to jump out to an early lead en route to defeating the Lady Screamin' Eagles 10-1 in high school softball action on Friday at Newark. Kellie Beasley had Hillcrest's only hit when she doubled home Samantha Blevins in the fourth inning. Blevins started in the circle and allowed four earned runs and recorded nine strikeouts. The loss snapped Hillcrest's five-game winning streak and left the Lady Screamin' Eagles with a 6-6 overall record.
Hillcrest defeated the Black Rock Lady Zebras 11-1 in a 2A-East matchup on Thursday at Lynn. Lindsey Crews went 4-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Eagles, scored four runs and finished with four stolen bases. Beasley batted 3-for-4, including a double and a home run, and had four RBIs. Blevins had a pair of RBIs on two hits and scored twice. Blevins earned the pitching victory, giving up one run on three hits and ringing up 13 strikeouts.
