S-H drops gamesNathan HibbardStaff Writer The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds baseball team played two games of a triple-header hosted by Izard County Consolidated on Friday at Brockwell.
The Greyhounds dropped a 3-1 pitchers' duel in their first game. The contest was tied 1-1 when the Cougars pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Andrew Young pitched a complete game for Sloan-Hendrix and allowed three runs on just three hits while striking out seven. Zach Brown had a hit and scored a run, and Robert Arnold had a hit.
The Viola Longhorns defeated the Greyhounds 15-4 in the day's second game. Viola scored two runs in the first inning, seven in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth for a 15-0 lead. Sloan-Hendrix scored four times in the bottom of the fourth, but it wasn't enough to prevent the game from being stopped due to the run rule. Zeb Gibson started and took the loss on the mound. He allowed nine runs on two hits, with three strikeouts and four walks in two innings of work. Chase DeJournett pitched the final two innings in relief and allowed six runs on five hits, with a strikeout and a walk. Young had the Greyhounds' only hit of the game. Jordan Johnson, Gibson, Young and Brown each scored a run. Viola defeated ICC 17-1 in the nightcap.
