Teague Phillips had three hits and scored two runs, as the Walnut Ridge Bobcats defeated the Riverside Rebels 9-1 in the first game of a high school baseball doubleheader Thursday at Walnut Ridge.
Zach Carson started on the mound and allowed two runs on three hits to earn the win.
After earning the win on the mound in the opener, Carson used his bat to power Walnut Ridge to a 7-2 victory in the nightcap, as the Bobcats completed the doubleheader sweep.
Carson batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the nightcap. Payton Poole, Clay Hufstedler, Eric Wilcoxson and Cole Hicks each registered two hits for the Bobcats.
Tyler Dickson was the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run on five hits, with five strikeouts, while pitching a complete game.
The Bobcats improved to 6-2 in 2A-3 conference play and 13-6 overall.
Walnut Ridge scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to defeat Cross County 12-2 in high school baseball action at Stewart Park.
For Walnut Ridge, Rowdy Ditto had three hits and drove in three runs. Hicks had three hits and scored three runs. Phillips had a pair of hits and three RBIs.
Range Weeks earned the pitching victory, allowing two runs on six hits, with three Ks.
