Weddings/Engagements

Byers ~ Greenwood

Alan and Cindy Byers of Cabot have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Alyson Byers, to Steven Greenwood, son of Robert and Dorothy Greenwood of Clover Bend.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Erika Snead of Jacksonville. She is a 2004 Cabot High School graduate and a 2008 graduate of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

She is enrolled in graduate school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock and is employed as an intern pharmacist at Kroger Pharmacy.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Rosalie Greenwood of Walnut Ridge and Laverne and Luella Sievers of Alexandria, Minn.

He is a 2003 graduate of Hoxie High School and a 2008 graduate of Northwest Florida State University. He is also a 2010 graduate of the Community College of the Air Force. He serves in the United States Air Force and is stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base.

The couple will exchange vows on May 22, 2011, at Sunset Ridge Retreat in Judsonia. After a honeymoon in Florida, the couple will reside in Ward.

Prentice ~ Holder

Katherine Holder became the bride of Dustin Prentice in a double-ring ceremony solemnized Saturday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. at Sedgwick Baptist Church.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Holder of Hoxie. The bridegroom is the son of Randy Prentice of Wynne and Tanya Prentice of Southaven, Miss.

Pastor Dennis Truxler of Hoxie performed the ceremony. Nuptial music was provided by Michael Johnson of Hoxie, cousin of the bride.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents.

Attendants for the bride and groom were Christie O'Quin of Pocahontas, Katie Prentice of Southaven, Miss., Megan Pierce of Bono, Jason Prentice of Vanndale and Nick Swink and Steven Jarrett, both of Wynne.

Ushers were Corey Pierce of Jonesboro and Aaron Coleman of Little Rock, cousins of the bride.

The wedding reception followed at the Hoxie Service Center. Tommie Pierce of Sedgwick and Gail Coleman of Sherwood, aunts of the bride, and Stephanie Johnson of Hoxie, cousin of the bride, were servers.

The reception was emceed by Terrence Ward of Sedgwick, cousin of the bride.

The couple reside in at Hoxie following a wedding trip to St. Louis. The bride is attending Arkansas State University in Newport. She is studying to be a registered nurse and is employed at Lawrence Memorial Hospital as an LPN. The groom is employed at Cavenaugh in Walnut Ridge.

Terlouw ~ Weeks

Fred and Susan Weeks announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their son, Chance Younger Weeks, to Natalya Marie Terlouw, daughter of Jon and Lori Terlouw of Bentonville.

The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Inez Weeks and the late Fred White Weeks, both of whom lived in Hoxie, and Elaine Novak of Rapid City, S.D., and the late Warren Novak. He is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Randy Terlouw of Newton, Iowa, and the late Sally Terlouw and Roberta Cline of Omaha, Neb. She is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in music.

The wedding will take place at the Mildred Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista on June 26.

An engagement party honoring the couple will be held at the Walnut Ridge Country Club on Saturday at 7 p.m. All friends are invited.

Obituaries

Geraldean Beller

Geraldean Beller, 68, of Pocahontas, died April 2, 2011.

Born Oct. 23, 1942, in Center, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Curtis "Buster" and Ora Clark.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Beller; two daughters, Susan Thompson, Gentry, and Dina Phillips, Ward; a son, Anthony Phillips, Jonesboro; a brother, James Clark, Orange, Texas; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas has charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Pentecostal Church of God in Pocahontas.

John Blankenship

John D. Blankenship, 48, of Walnut Ridge, died April 5, 2011, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born July 17, 1962, in Walnut Ridge, he was a supervisor for the Lawrence County Road Department for 16 years.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Blankenship, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Charles Blankenship and wife Leslie, Smithville, and Clay Blankenship, Hoxie; a sister, Nancy Smith and husband David, Walnut Ridge; a very special aunt, Frances Walker, Paragould; four nieces, Shantel Archer, Emily Smith, Katie Blankenship and Cheryl Blankenship; three nephews, Jacob Blankenship, Gavin Blankenship and Matthew Blankenship; and two great-nephews.

Graveside service is Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cole-Kissee Cemetery, near Walnut Ridge, with Steve Alexander and Brian Alexander officiating. Bryan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Lee Krantz

Robert Lee Krantz, 76, of Swifton, died March 27, 2011.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bertha Krantz; five daughters, Bonnie Haskett, Jonesboro, Earline Hutchison and husband William, Lowell, Rebecca Hubbard and husband Eddie, Rogers, Elizabeth Yates and husband Gene, Alicia, and Deborah Dominie, Swifton; a son, Robert Krantz Jr., Swifton; three sisters; four brothers; 18 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Pentecostal Church in Swifton. Burial was in Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Bradford.

Ruth V. Liscomb

Ruth V. Liscomb, 75, of Melbourne, died March 31, 2011, at the White River Medical Center.

Born Aug. 12, 1935, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Hamilton and Lottie Mae Suddath Liscomb.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Liscomb; and a sister, Shirley Elliott.

Survivors include a brother, Rudolph Liscomb and wife Aleta, Melbourne; and two sisters, Dorothy Byrd, Jonesboro, and Betty Brewington, Black Rock.

Graveside service was Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Rev. Wayne Wilson officiating. Higginbotham Funeral Service had charge of arrangements.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Janette Carol Melton

Janette Carol Melton, 61, of Walnut Ridge, died March 29, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest O'Neal Melton; her parents, Howard and Almeda Alphin Bonner; and a brother, Don Bonner.

Survivors include three sons, Danny Melton and wife Chris, Gary Melton and wife Debbie and Neil Melton, all of Walnut Ridge; three sisters, Alma Britt and husband Fred, Trenton, Ga., Betty Miller and husband Jim, Hardy, and Wanda Woods and husband James, Walnut Ridge; and six grandchildren.

Graveside service was Friday at 11 a.m. at Whittaker Cemetery with Derek Collins officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Randy Miles, Steve Miller, Kerry Langston, Brian Hatfield, Scott Luther and Barry Melton. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Light, Daniel Byrd and Justin Byrd.

Trudy Jo Miles

Trudy Jo Miles, 67, of Englewood, Colo., died April 1, 2011.

Born Aug. 9, 1943, she was the daughter of Clarence and Ina Miles. She was a former resident of Walnut Ridge and a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Davis.

Survivors include a sister, Bonnie Tetrault and husband Don, New Braunfels, Texas.

A Rosary will be held today at 6 p.m., with The Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10 a.m. at All Souls Catholic Parish in Englewood. Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to All Souls School in the name of the Trudy Miles Memorial Fund for Speech and Drama, 4951 S. Pennsylvania St., Englewood, CO 80113.

Bernita Morgan Pool

Bernita Morgan Pool, 90, of Clermont, Ga., died March 30, 2011.

A native of Clover Bend, she was a homemaker and veteran of the U.S. Navy. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Samuel Pool, Clermont; a daughter, Nancy Bell, Cumming, Ga.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Clermont with Rev. Alan Morris officiating. Burial was in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.

Samuel Claud Pool

Samuel Claud Pool, 88, of Clermont, Ga., formerly of Clover Bend, died March 30, 2011.

A native of Grandville, Texas, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Samuel Pool, Clermont; a daughter, Nancy Bell, Cumming, Ga.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Clermont with Rev. Alan Morris officiating. Burial was in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.

Leon Ralph Rogers

Leon Ralph Rogers, 90, of Walnut Ridge, died April 2, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He had lived in Lawrence County for the past nine years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie Rogers; a daughter, Susan Sorrato, Scottsbluff, Neb.; two stepsons, Kenneth White and wife Janice, Walnut Ridge, and David White, Des Arc; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. The body was cremated. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

John Frances Rorex

John Frances "Jack" Rorex, 79, of Mountain Home, died March 29, 2011, at Baxter Regional Medical Center.

Born June 28, 1931, at Egypt, he was the son of Earl and Mayme Felts Rorex. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and worked at General Electric in Jonesboro for many years.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel Rorex, Robert Rorex and Alton Felts.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Geneva Honey Rorex, whom he married June 23, 1962, at Egypt; a son, Jim Neely and wife Terry, Batesville; a daughter, Deborah Way and husband Gary, Mountain Home; a brother, Cecil Rorex, San Antonio; a sister-in-law, Patty Seay, St. Louis; four grandchildren, Tina Lewis, Mary Couch, Samantha Capps and David Way; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. at Higginbotham Funeral Service in Walnut Ridge with Rev. Frank Plache officiating. Burial was in Markham Cemetery near Egypt.

Nita Pool True

Nita Pool True, 57, of Claremont, Ga., died March 30, 2011, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

She was an administrator in medical services and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Candice Jackson; a son, Steven Popovich; a sister, Nancy Bell; and a brother, Samuel Pool.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Clermont, Ga., with Rev. Alan Morris officiating.
