Cats win two, drop one
Staff Writer The Walnut Ridge Bobcats needed just three innings to rout Maynard 16-1 in high school baseball action Friday at Maynard. Cole Hicks and Zach Carson each had three hits and drove in three runs apiece. Tyler Dickson had two hits and three RBIs. Payton Poole started on the mound and allowed one run on one hit. The Bobcats improved to 3-1 in 2A-3 conference play and 6-3 overall.
Walnut Ridge's offense was in high gear as the Bobcats defeated East Poinsett County 15-5 Thursday at Stewart Park. Poole had three hits and three RBIs. Hicks had three hits and scored three runs. Chris Dickson had a two-run home run and three total RBIs, and Eric Wilcoxson had three RBIs . Wilcoxson earned the pitching win. He allowed four runs and six hits, with four strikeouts in five innings of work.
The Bobcats suffered their first conference loss of the season in a 5-2 setback to the Marmaduke Greyhounds on March 16 at Stewart Park. Carson had a homer for Walnut Ridge.
