The Walnut Ridge FFA chapter competed in the Eastern District Career Development events at Arkansas State University on March 8.
Logan Brady, Celea Jones and Alex Teel qualified for the state forestry contest by placing fifth in the district. Brady led the team by placing as third highest individual in the competition.
SHES participates in reading program
Sloan-Hendrix Elementary School is continuing its participation in the Black Stallion Literacy Foundation (BSLF).
Combining Walter Farley's books and real horses, the BSLF teaches first-grade children the excitement and joy of learning to read.
The BSLF is an innovative partnership among educators, businesses, volunteers, education foundations and staff members focused on promoting literacy.
Hoxie School receives grants
Hoxie School District was recently awarded two new program startup grants in the amount of $65,875.00 from the Department of Career Education.
The money will be used to provide the business department with the equipment needed to begin the Securities and Investments program of study and supply the family and consumer science department with the FCS Teaching and Training program of study.
Rhonda Fowler, career and technical education coordinator at the Northeast Arkansas Education Cooperative, worked with James Treadwell and Melissa Rice on the applications.
