WR sweeps S-HNathan Hibbard
Walnut Ridge and Sloan-Hendrix met in high school baseball and softball action on Friday at Stewart Park.
The Walnut Ridge baseball team scored seven runs in the third inning en route to shutting out Sloan-Hendrix 14-0.
Payton Poole led Walnut Ridge at the plate with three hits and three RBIs. Clay Hufstedler added two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Cole Hicks had two hits and scored four runs. Chris Dickson and Rowdy Ditto each had two hits.
Eric Wilcoxson started on the mound and recorded three strikeouts without allowing a hit in four innings of work. Dickson came on to pitch the final inning and recorded two strikeouts.
Andrew Young had Sloan-Hendrix's only hit.
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats improved to 2-0 with an 11-4 victory over the Lady Greyhounds.
Walnut Ridge took an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, before the Lady Hounds plated a run in the top of the third. The Lady Bobcats added two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to stretch their advantage to 7-1.
Sloan-Hendrix fought back with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to close to within 7-4, but Walnut Ridge answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame to put the game away.
Ashton Lawson had three hits and scored two runs to lead the Lady Cats. Amanda Emison had two hits and scored twice. Sabrina Knight had a hit and scored twice. Hannah Massey scored two runs. Ashlyn Cothern and Beth Massey each had a hit and scored a run, and Ashley Baker scored a run.
Massey earned the complete-game victory, allowing four hits and striking out two.
Paige Ratliff pitched four innings for Sloan-Hendrix, allowing five runs on nine hits, and one strikeout.
