Frankly speaking...We congratulate the Lawrence County Historical Society for its efforts that helped bring about the opening of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives in Powhatan. This is a perfect example of not waiting for things to happen but of taking the initiative to make things happen in our county. At the grand opening of the archives facility on Thursday, Richard Davies, executive director of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, said, "If it wasn't for the Lawrence County Historical Society, these records would not be there ... period. ..."
While walking Monday night, we saw moving white lights in the sky that looked quite strange. Some of our neighbors saw them as well. Could they be UFOs or angels? They were odd enough to make one's mind wander.
According to the Lawrence County 9-1-1 Communications Center, they received several calls about the lights; however, a Randolph County Sheriff's deputy reported to the center that the lights were part of a promotion for a tanning business in their county.
