Mia James Meadors

Karen and Trevor Meadors of Sallisaw, Okla., have announced the birth of a daughter on Nov. 24, 2010, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Ft. Smith.

The baby weighed six pounds, seven ounces, and has been named Mia James Meadors.

She has an older sister, Kennedy Meadors.

Grandparents are Mike and Sue Riley of Pittsburg, Texas, and James and Dianne Meadors of Walnut Ridge. Great-grandparents are Aletta Riley of Pittsburg, Texas, and James and Ella Mae Meadors of Walnut Ridge.

Weddings/Engagements

Blevins~Brown
Sondra Deanna Blevins and Jordan Anthony Brown wish to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Blewe Etta Blevins of Strawberry and Terry Blevins of Cord. She is the granddaughter of Euna Oudette of Smithville and the late Robert Oudette and Bill and Hazel Blevins of Lynn.

The prospective groom is the son of Jerry and Tammy Brown of Ravenden. He is the grandson of Larry Brown of Alton, Mo., and the late Esther Riveria and Maxie Riggs of Walnut Ridge and the late Alene Riggs.

They will exchange vows at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at Mt. Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Saffell.

All family and friends are invited to attend the ceremony and the reception, which will follow.

Evans~Harris
Mr. and Mrs. Randy Evans of Lynn announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Tamara Denise Evans, to Cody Lee Harris, son of Anthony and Rhonda Harris of Lynn.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter Kathy Mize of Smithville, Dennis and Pam Bagwell of Pocahontas, Patsy and Martin Evens of Batesville and Larry Evans of Lynn. She is the great-granddaughter of Barbara (Mrs. Calvin) Mize of Lynn, Bernice (Mrs. Duaine) Bagwell of Pocahontas, Ruby (Mrs. Monroe "GT") Evans of Lynn and Richard Barrett of Las Vegas, Nev.

She is a graduate of Hillcrest High School and is attending the Arkansas Academy of Hair Design in Paragould. She plans to complete her training and open a business.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Denver and Kay Wilson of Calamine and Charles and Alice Harris of Lynn.

He is a 2008 graduate of Hillcrest High School and is a student at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He plans to complete his degree in civil engineering. He is employed by Whitmire Farms and Fabrication in Strawberry.

The couple will exchange vows on March 19 at 2 p.m. at the Lynn Church of Christ. A reception will follow the ceremony in the fellowship hall. All family and friends are invited to attend.

Violet Balentine

Violet Balentine, 79, of Smithville, died March 1, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born in Alco, she was the daughter of Claude and Beulah Martin Tilley. She was a homemaker and a member of Smithville United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Richard Balentine; and 12 siblings.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Dempsey, Blue Springs, Mo., and Connie Sanders and husband Seth, Lynn; two sons, Carl Balentine and wife Ladawn and Cecil Balentine and wife Carrie, all of Smithville; a stepdaughter, Flossie Champlin, Cabot; a sister, Catherine Peppers, Jonesboro; a brother, Thomas Tilley and wife Glenda, Greers Ferry; special friends, Homer Mize, Maxine Mize and Max Mize; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Smithville United Methodist Church with Bro. Bob McMillon officiating. Burial was in Smithville Cemetery under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Cody Balentine, Garry Peppers, Sean Turner, Max Mize, Derek Christopher and Tommy Junior Tilley. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Peppers, Catherine Peppers, Seth Sanders and the members of Smithville United Methodist Church.

Walter Bayles

Walter Bayles, 67, of Hoxie, died March 4, 2011, at his home.

Born April 3, 1943, in Searcy, he was a truck driver and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Mooney Bayles, on Dec. 23, 2009, whom he married Oct. 25, 1985; a daughter, Sandra Bayles; his parents, Sam and Annie Russian Bayles; a sister, Wanda Bass; and a brother, Sam "Bull" Bayles.

Survivors include two sons, Allen Bayles, Hoxie, and Shawn Young, Pocahontas; a daughter, Barbara Morton, Black Rock; and five grandchildren, Allen Bayles, Mitchell Bayles, Rickey Adams, Cheryl Adams and Stacey Adams.

Graveside service was Saturday at noon at Lawrence Memorial Park with Robert Davis officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Faye Wanda Christopher

Faye Wanda Christopher, 84, of Smithville, died March 3, 2011, at her home.

Born Sept. 1, 1926, she was the daughter of Cleveland and Cora Davis. She had lived in Smithville the past 30 years and was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by a son, Katon Christopher; three brothers and eight sisters.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Ceburn Christopher; two sons, Roy Christopher and wife Theresa, Smithville, and Coy Christopher and wife Pam, Bismark; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Lynn with Keith Marlin and Jay Wilkins officiating. Burial was in Dry Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Collin Houseal, Jonathan Christopher, Jacob Christopher, Bryan Christopher, Lance Discotel, Blake Gottschalk and Erich Porter.

Donna Sue Drowns

Donna Sue Drowns, 53, of Walnut Ridge, died March 2, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born Jan. 30, 1958, at Lafe, she was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Eugene Nixon and Reba Mae Tucker.

Survivors include her husband, William Drowns, whom she married Feb. 23, 1973; a daughter, Donna Kaye Lewis and husband Robie, Paragould; three sons, William Eugene Drowns and wife Alma, Indianapolis, David Lee Drowns and wife Natasha, Batesville, and Dustin Drowns, Walnut Ridge; a brother, Floyd Nixon Jr., Paragould; a sister, Jerica Hampton, McDougal; her mother-in-law, Lillie Mae Drowns, Corning; and six grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning with Herbert Ellis officiating. Burial was in Cummings Cemetery near Pollard.

Ernest Charles Fort Jr.

Ernest Charles "Bud" Fort Jr., 68, of Walnut Ridge, died March 6, 2011, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Nov. 7, 1942, in Jonesboro, he was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County, a retired farmer and of the Church of Christ belief.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Fort; his parents, Ernest "Pete" and Viola Mae "Ola" Fort; and a grandson, Brent O'Neal Fort.

Survivors include a son, Michael Fort and wife Dena, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Bill Fort and wife Jean, Pocahontas, and Bobby "Shorty" Fort and wife Dianne, Jonesboro; two sisters, Bearnice Roper and husband Albert, LaPlace, Ill., and Geneva Fort Burch, Jonesboro; and two grandsons, Cody Fort and Matthew Fort.

Funeral is today at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Terry Ring and Conner Davis officiating. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery near Alicia.

Pallbearers will be Norman Butts, Michael Butts, Chris Pinkston, Ricky Fort, Greg Williams and Conner Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryce "Skipper" Fort, Roger Thompson, Jeff Fort, Max Dacus, Tommy McNerney and Sean McNerney

Kylee Jade Henry

Kylee Jade Henry, newborn daughter of Jessica Gibson of Walnut Ridge and Justin Henry of Trumann, died March 2, 2011, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Clyde Gibson.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her grandparents, James Gibson and Janet Slatton, Walnut Ridge, Steve Henry, Hardy, and Lynn Roser, Osceola; and her great-grandparents, Janice Slatton and Martha Gibson, both of Walnut Ridge, Leroy Slatton, Pocahontas, Becky and Russell Newell, Trumann, and Tommy Henry, Hardy.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Woody Evans officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Othelia McIlvoy

Othelia McIlvoy, 84, of Delaplaine, died March 3, 2011, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born March 14, 1926, in Peach Orchard, she was the daughter of Jake and Bessie Brown Shield. She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett McIlvoy; four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include a son, Larry McIlvoy, Delaplaine.

No services are planned. Ermert Funeral Home of Corning has charge of arrangements.

Estella Corene Rutledge

Estella Corene Rutledge, 77, of Roland, formerly of Pocahontas, died March 3, 2011, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Rutledge; a sister, MaryLou Litherland; and a son-in-law, Bruce Edmonson.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita Edmonson, Roland; and a grandson, Matthew Cavenar, Pensacola, Fla.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Elnora Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Jeral Dean officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Gardens under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Brett Sharp, Dave Davis, Blake McGinnis, Brandon Howard, Denton Howard and Keaton Howard.

Roy Upchurchy

Roy Upchurch, 29, of Strawberry, died March 3, 2011, at Strawberry.

He was born Oct. 30, 1981, in Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Upchurch; and his grandparents, Edward and Elizabeth Kumpe and Lexie and Dora Upchurch.

Survivors include two sons, Andrew Upchurch and Dalton Upchurch, both of Flippin; his parents, Robert James Upchurch and Sandra Kumpe Upchurch, Strawberry; two brothers, Bruce Upchurch, Sidney, and Adam Upchurch, of the home; and a sister, Rebecca Upchurch, of the home.

Graveside service was Saturday at Ward Cemetery near Strawberry. Roller-Crouch/McGee Funeral Home of Cave City had charge of arrangements.

Joyce Evelyn Ward

Joyce Evelyn Ward, 72, of Walnut Ridge, died March 8, 2011, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born May 2, 1938, at Clover Bend, she was a former cashier and a member of Main Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Ward, on March 25, 2000, whom she married Feb. 28, 1955; her parents, Childers and Helen Huskey Crossno; and two brothers, Eugene Crossno and Darrell Crossno.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Ward and John Ward, both of Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Brenda Ward, Valley Springs; two brothers, Brooks Crossno and Jerry Crossno, both of Walnut Ridge; two sisters, Pauline Arnold and Nancy Ingram, both of Walnut Ridge; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Main Street Church of Christ with Rob Combs officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Visitation is Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of the service at the church.

Edwin Lee Wiles

Edwin Lee Wiles, 58, of Williford, died Feb. 25, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Irma Killpatrick Wiles; and a brother, Jerry Wiles.

Survivors include a son, Michael Lee Wiles, Marion; two brothers, Richard Wiles and Allen Wiles, both of Williford; and four sisters, Ann O'Neal and Jeanie Waine, both of Fayetteville, Sue Mounts, Springdale, and Kathy McComas, Cherokee Village.

Graveside service was Tuesday at Highland Cemetery in Highland with Bro. Floyd Rickard officiating. Higginbotham Funeral Service of Hardy had charge of arrangements.
