LAWCO. REPUBLICANS HOST FIRST DISTRICT COMMITTEE ~ The Lawrence County Republican Committee hosted the Arkansas First Congressional District Committee meeting Saturday morning at the county headquarters in Walnut Ridge. Chad Moseley (left) of Walnut Ridge, district representative to the state Republican Executive Board, speaks to the crowd of approximately 120 people. Benny Speaks (right) of Mountain Home, First District chairman, presided over the meeting. Officers were elected, and Speaks was re-elected chair. Also among the officers is Larry Corbett of Alicia, who is district treasurer.

Changes could be coming to Hoxie PO

The Hoxie Post Office may become a postal station within the next two-to-six months when the United State Postal Service concludes their analysis.

Grand opening of NEARA nearing

The dedication and grand opening ceremony for the new Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives (NEARA) at Powhatan will be held on Thursday, March 3, at 1 p.m., announced Arkansas State Parks Director Greg Butts.

Black River Bridge
weight limit changing

Changes to the weight limit on the Highway 63 Black River Bridge in Lawrence County became effective Monday, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials.

WR Council buys truck

At a special meeting on Feb. 17, the Walnut Ridge City Council voted to purchase a 1997 International rescue truck for the city's fire department. Engine 2, an older truck in need of many repairs, was used as a trade-in on the newer truck.

Ratliff gives report
on legislative session

State Rep. James Ratliff of Imboden, who began serving his first term as District 73 representative in January, met with approximately 15 Lawrence Countians at a public meeting held Saturday at the courthouse. His purpose was to give an update on happenings in the legislative session that is now underway in Little Rock
