District Tournament
action under way

Lawrence County's senior high basketball teams began play in their respective district tournaments on Monday.

3A-3 at Piggott

Zach Crisler and Jacob Defries each scored 16 points to lead the Hoxie Mustangs to a 71-34 rout over Harrisburg on Monday at the 3A-3 District Tournament at Piggott. Hoxie was to play Tuckerman on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. A win over the Bulldogs would send the Mustangs into Friday's semifinals against Manila.

The Lady Mustangs will face Harrisburg on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

2A-3 at Caraway

The Walnut Ridge Bobcats saw their season end with a hard-fought 49-46 loss to Marmaduke on Monday at the 2A-3 District Tournament at Caraway. Payton Poole led the Bobcats with 15 points. Range Weeks had 12 points, and Eric Wilcoxson added 10.

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats were scheduled to meet host Riverside on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The winner will play Marmaduke tonight at 7 p.m.

1A-3 East at Black Rock

Black Rock's Lady Zebras staged a fourth-quarter rally to defeat Weiner 52-46 in front of the home crowd at the 1A-3 East District Tournament on Monday.

Black Rock trailed 37-29 after three quarters, but outscored Weiner 23-9 in the final period to claim the win. Haley Slusser led Black Rock with 23 points. Kaylie Hammock and Megan Jones each had 11 rebounds.

The Lady Zebras were scheduled to play Armorel Tuesday night at 7.

On the boys' side, Black Rock received a bye into the semifinals and will play CRA today at 5:30.

1A-2 North at Norfork

Two county teams squared off on Monday in the girls bracket of the 1A-2 North District Tournament at Norfork when Hillcrest's Lady Screamin' Eagles defeated the Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds 68-33.

Samantha Blevins led Hillcrest with 15 points, and Mackenzie Nunnally added 12. Shayla Dickson scored 17 points for Sloan-Hendrix.

The Hillcrest girls will meet Viola in a semifinal game on Thursday at 7 p.m.

In the boys' bracket, Izard County Consolidated defeated Sloan-Hendrix 69-46. Chase DeJournett had 14 points for the Greyhounds. Daniel Rowsey scored 12 points, and Tyler Gillean added 10.

The Hillcrest boys were scheduled to play Calico Rock on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
