LawCo. posts loss
of 359 since 2000

According to the 2010 Census figures, Lawrence County's population of 17,415 has declined since the 2000 Census, which reported 17,774 residents in the county. This is a loss of 359 people.

The U.S. Census Bureau released population totals and demographic characteristics online on Feb. 10 for the state of Arkansas. The state's population grew to 2,915,918 in 2010 from 2,673,400 in 2000.

Most towns in Lawrence County reported a decrease in population, including Walnut Ridge with a population total of 4,890, down 35 residents, and Hoxie with a population total of 2,780, down 37 residents.

The city of Black Rock lost 55 residents, while Lynn experienced a loss of 27 residents since the 2000 Census.

Other towns, including Powhatan, Smithville, Strawberry and Sedgwick, gained residents. Based on figures, Powhatan gained 22 residents and Strawberry gained 19 residents since 2000, while Sedgwick gained 40 residents. Smithville gained five.
