Bobcat teams split
wins with Marked Tree
Walnut Ridge's Katie Lewis had her second big game of the week in leading the Lady Bobcats to a 56-42 basketball victory over Cross County Thursday at Cherry Valley. Lewis finished with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds against the Lady Thunderbirds.
Walnut Ridge led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter, 25-16 at halftime and 39-32 after three periods.
Also for the Lady Cats, Audrey McElrath scored 12 points, and Ashley Baker added 11.
The Walnut Ridge junior high girls routed Cross County 53-13.
Walnut Ridge also won a seventh-grade girls game.
Earlier in the week, Lewis recorded 28 points and 10 rebounds at Marked Tree, as the Lady Bobcats fell to the Lady Indians 72-65 on Jan. 31.
Walnut Ridge entered the fourth quarter trailing 56-46 and closed the gap to five points, but clutch free-throw shooting allowed Marked Tree to hang on for the win.
Audrey McElrath also had a double-double for the Lady Cats, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 boards.
The Walnut Ridge junior Lady Bobcats edged Marked Tree 37-36, while the Walnut Ridge seventh-graders also brought home a win.
The Walnut Ridge boys' basketball teams traveled to Marked Tree on Feb. 1.
In senior high action, Marked Tree topped the Bobcats 66-58.
The Indians led 11-8 after one period before Walnut Ridge came back to tie the contest 20-20 at halftime. Marked Tree outscored the Bobcats in the third quarter and took a 45-37 advantage into the final period.
Walnut Ridge was led by Chris Dickson with 22 points, while Richie Ward and Eric Wilcoxson added 10 points apiece.
The Marked Tree junior boys defeated Walnut Ridge 46-24.
