Zebras beat ArmorelNathan HibbardStaff Writer The Black Rock Zebras took to the road and defeated conference foe Armorel 67-42 in senior boys basketball action on Thursday. Black Rock led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter, 30-19 at halftime and 50-32 after three quarters. The Zebras were led by Joe Paul Carey with 20 points. Khris Foster scored 18 points, and Sam Clem added 16. Hunter Horton finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
A fast start propelled Armorel past Black Rock 50-24. The Lady Tigers led 19-4 after a quarter, 31-17 at halftime and 46-24 entering the fourth period. The Lady Zebras were led by Megan Jones with 11 points. In junior girls action, Armorel edged Black Rock 23-18.
The outcome was never in doubt, as the Black Rock senior boys raced out to a 32-4 first-quarter lead and went on to rout Ridgefield Christian 72-29 on Jan. 25 at Jonesboro. Foster led Black Rock with 18 points, and Carey had 13. Tyler Newell scored 12 points, and Jason Harper had 10 rebounds. The Ridgefield junior boys defeated Black Rock 41-29.
