BR teams fall to Bay
Staff Writer The Bay Yellowjackets used a big third quarter to hand the Black Rock senior boys a 73-52 loss for their first setback in 1A-3 East conference play Friday night at Bay. Black Rock led 32-29 at halftime, before being outscored 28-11 in the third period to trail 57-43 entering the fourth quarter. Tyler Newell led the Zebras with 16 points, and Joe Paul Carey added 13. The Zebras fell to 7-1 in the conference and 24-4 overall. The Bay junior high boys defeated Black Rock 27-22.
Black Rock's Lady Zebras dropped a 55-36 decision to the Lady Yellowjackets. Haley Slusser led Black Rock with 14 points.
Black Rock jumped out to a big early lead and went on to defeat Crowley's Ridge Academy 82-53 in senior boys action on Jan. 18 at Paragould. The Zebras led 30-16 after one quarter on the strength of seven three-pointers in the period. The Zebras led 52-36 at halftime, then limited the Falcons to just two points in the third quarter to carry a commanding 75-38 lead into the final period. Black Rock was led by Tadd Fore with 21 points, and Khris Foster with 17. Carey scored 15 points, and Sam Clem added 12 for the Zebras. CRA edged Black Rock 29-26 in a junior boys contest.
