SNUG AS A BUG ~ Rhiannon Whitlow, nine-year-old daughter of Vance and Crystal Whitlow of Walnut Ridge, enjoys the warmth of the Lawrence County Library in Walnut Ridge on Tuesday as she reads a book in the children's section. Cold temperatures resulted in icy roads in parts of the county on Monday morning, and more inclement weather is predicted for later this week.

Icy road conditions surprise motorists

With the temperature hovering right at the freezing mark, early morning rainfall turned dangerous in parts of Lawrence County on Monday. Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson said patchy ice caused problems for motorists, who were not expecting the roads to be slick.

WR assessing needs of city

At the Walnut Ridge City Council meeting on Jan. 11, Mayor Don House congratulated new members of the city council saying, "The people of Walnut Ridge have put their confidence in you and me, and especially in those who were re-elected to the council. We will do the best job we can and give our citizen's 110 percent of what talents we have to offer - we have a lot before us this year."

Coalition reminds residents about new law

The Lawrence County ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs) Coalition is working to inform residents about state and county laws that restrict the serving of alcohol to minors.

Peanut company officials visit WR

Officials from the Clint Williams Company, based in Madill, Okla. met with local farmers and agriculture industry representatives on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Captain Catfish.
