PASSING OF THE KEYS ~ Former County Judge Alex Latham (right) passes the keys to the Lawrence County Courthouse to the new county judge, Dale Freeman. This took place after new county and city officials took their oath of office, just after midnight, on Jan. 1 from District Judge Larry Hayes. Latham, who was sworn in as a justice of the peace, held the office of county judge for 22 years.

WR to proceed with project

Despite opposition from City Water Works Manager Lester Herring, who said he was speaking for the entire water and sewer commission, the Walnut Ridge City Council voted to pass an ordinance to extend and improve the sewer system in Walnut Ridge at a special meeting on Dec. 29. Alderman Wendell Jones voted against the ordinance.
