BR boys, Hillcrest girls

Two Lawrence Count teams made runs in the NEA Tournament before being eliminated in Monday's quarterfinal action.
The Rivercrest Lady Colts used strong play in the second and fourth quarters to defeat Hillcrest's Lady Screamin' Eagles 56-47 on Monday.
Hillcrest held a 13-12 advantage at the end of the first period before being outscored 19-10 by the Lady Colts in the second quarter to trail 31-23 at halftime.
The Lady Eagles came back in the third period to close to within 40-38. Rivercrest then used a 16-9 edge in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Samantha Blevins led Hillcrest with 14 points, and Mackenzie Nunnally scored 10.
The Black Rock Zebras were edged by Augusta 55-53.
Joe Paul Carey led Black Rock with 18 points. Hunter Horton scored 13 points, and Khris Foster added 11.
Hillcrest - Cedar Ridge girls
Following a first-round bye, Hillcrest advanced to the quarterfinals with a 41-34 second-round victory over Cedar Ridge on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles led 12-7 after one quarter, 21-17 at halftime and 29-25 at the end of the third period.
Nunnally led Hillcrest with 13 points.
After an opening-round victory over Walnut Ridge, the Black Rock Lady Zebras fell to Marmaduke 52-27 in second-round action.
Haley Slusser led Black Rock with 11 points.
The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles were eliminated following a 71-52 loss to Augusta on Thursday.
Derek Wooten scored 18 points to lead the Eagles. Zach Doyle and Trevor Morgan each scored 10 points.
The Black Rock boys played their first game on Thursday against Tuckerman and earned a 68-61 victory over the Bulldogs.
Carey led Black Rock with 22 points. Foster scored 16 points, including five three-pointers.
Wednesday, Dec. 22
BR - WR girls
In a matchup involving a pair of county teams, Black Rock's Lady Zebras outlasted the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats 65-61 in overtime in first-round action on Wednesday.
The Lady Bobcats started fast, opening a 17-3 lead early in the second period. Black Rock fought back and closed to within 21-14 by the end of the first half. Walnut Ridge extended its lead slightly in the third quarter, taking a 37-28 advantage into the fourth period.
Black Rock took its first lead of the game at 44-43 following an 8-0 run. The teams traded the lead until Black Rock's Devin Pickett sank a free throw to put the Zebras ahead 52-50 with six seconds remaining. Walnut Ridge's Ashley Baker then raced the length of the court for a layup as time expired to send the game into overtime.
The Lady Zebras used clutch free throw shooting in the overtime period to secure the win.
Slusser led Black Rock with 32 points, while Kaylie Hammock pulled down 10 rebounds.
Walnut Ridge was led by Daniel Vaughn's 25 points, while Audrey McElrath added 10.
Dylan Wooten and Trevor Morgan combined for 53 points, as the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles defeated Crowley's Ridge Academy 66-56 in first-round action.
CRA led 16-9 after one quarter before Hillcrest came back to lead 32-31 at halftime and 49-45 entering the fourth period.
Wooten finished with 27 points, and Morgan added 26 for the Eagles.
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats fell to Tuckerman 59-45.
Chris Dickson led Walnut Ridge with 19 points.
Sloan-Hendrix's Chase DeJournett hit five three-pointers and finished with 18 points in the Greyhounds 63-50 first-round loss to Rector on Wednesday.
The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds fell to Cedar Ridge 48-32 on Wednesday.
