Mustangs earn post-season honorsNathan Hibbard
Eight Hoxie Mustang football players have received post-season recognition for their play during the 2010 season. Four Mustangs received All-State honors and eight were named to the 3A-3 All-Conference team.
Named to the Class AAA All-State first team were:
Sebastian Irvin (junior) - Irvin was the leading rusher in Northeast Arkansas, with 1,655 yards and 15 touchdowns on 208 carries and scored a total of 101 points. As quarterback, he completed 55-of-139 passes for 892 yards and 11 touchdowns. On defense, Irvin recorded 49 tackles and made two interceptions. He had five tackles for loss and caused one fumble. On special teams, he returned 22 kickoffs for 361 yards. Irvin was also named to the KAIT 8 Super Team.
Garrett Owens (senior) - Owens was a two-year starter at left tackle. He graded out at 78 percent on his blocking assignments and had 22 knockdown blocks.
Named to the All-State second team were:
Mike King (senior) - King was a two-year starter at right guard. He graded out at 82 percent on his blocking assignments and had 25 knockdown blocks. On defense, he recorded 58 tackles and one sack.
Tyler Hall (junior) - On defense, Hall recorded 92 tackles, caused two fumbles and blocked eight passes. As a receiver, he had 18 receptions for 265 yards and two touchdowns. On special teams, he returned 12 kicks for 151 yards.
In addition to the previous, those receiving first team All-Conference honors were:
Tyler Henson (senior) - Henson was a two-year starter at left guard. He graded out at 82 percent on his blocking assignments and had 21 knockdown blocks. On defense, Henson made 54 tackles, caused two fumbles and blocked one pass.
Thomas Kingsland (senior) - Kingsland was a two-year starter on defense. He recorded 107 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack. He also had two fumble recoveries and caused two fumbles.
Named to the All-Conference second team:
Kenny Mashburn (junior) - Mashburn rushed for 411 yards and two touchdowns on 51 attempts. He caught 14 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, Mashburn recorded 61 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception and six blocked passes. On special teams, he returned 17 kicks for 281 yards.
Joe Gage (junior) - On defense, Gage recorded 76 tackles, with two tackles for loss. He made two interceptions and blocked three passes. On offense, he caught five passes for 76 yards.
The Mustangs finished the 2010 season with a record of four wins and seven losses and earned a trip to the 3A State playoffs.
