Mustangs record homecoming win
Coy Yasler recorded a double-double in leading the Hoxie Mustangs to a 64-33 homecoming victory over Corning in senior boys basketball action Friday night.
The Mustangs were in control of the game from the outset, leading 19-11 at the end of the first quarter, 37-22 at halftime and 51-28 after three quarters.
Yasler finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs. Zach Crisler had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Devin Roberts added 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Hunter Flippo, Seth Hart and Brody VanWinkle each had six points.
The Hoxie junior Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season, falling 44-39 to the Bobcats.
The contest was extremely tight, with Hoxie holding a slim 8-7 lead after one period. Corning came back in the second period to take a 21-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. The teams were tied 29-29 at the end of the third quarter, before the Bobcats outscored Hoxie 15-10 in the final period to take the win.
Slade Sullens led Hoxie with 12 points. Tristan Privett scored nine points, and Hunter Keeling added six.
The junior Mustangs fell to 3-1 on the season.
The Hoxie seventh-grade boys defeated Corning 42-17.
Hoxie led 7-3 after one period, 18-11 at halftime and 27-14 after three quarters.
Tanner Sullens, Alex Carpenter and Martin Crisler each scored eight points for Hoxie.
