Records moved to
Powhatan facility

John Freshour (left) and Elizabeth Freeman, employees of the Arkansas History Commission office in Little Rock office, help unload materials at the new Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives facility in Powhatan.
While the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives facility is not yet open to the public, the records that were once housed in the Powhatan Courthouse are back in Lawrence County, as of Tuesday.

Corinne Fletcher, Powhatan Historic State Park superintendent, said the materials that were donated to the NEARA by the Lawrence County Historical Society were moved Monday and Tuesday from their temporary housing at the Arkansas State University library.

In addition to state park and NEARA employees, several from the Arkansas History Commission assisted with moving the materials.

Furniture, filing cabinets and shelving have also been put into place, and other records pertaining to Lawrence County that were previously stored in Little Rock have also been moved to the facility.
