take extra effort
Frank Witowski reported to The TD Tuesday afternoon that the Pearl Harbor 69th anniversary event at the Wings of Honor Museum was a very special event and well attended. We will have Frank's coverage of the event next week.
Speaking of special events, we have had firsthand reports of the top-notch pre-Christmas events that have occurred thus far in Lawrence County. Some of these events include the Northeast Arkansas Chorale concert, Hoxie's Dickens in the Park, the Lawrence Memorial Health Foundation Christmas Gala, parades and school concerts. We are aware that these events are the result of a lot of time and hard work put in by many individuals.
Thanks to all of you who help make these events happen.
Raul Blasini of Pocahontas, who is with the Salvation Army, is looking for church groups or other organizations that would like to sponsor a Christmas basket for a family in need. The Salvation Army is planning to provide 15 to 16 families in Lawrence County with baskets costing approximately $70. The baskets will include meat, dressing and vegetables, as well as toys for children. To help out with the effort, contact Blasini at 926-3894.
This is the first year we had heard of Cyber Monday, which occurred the Monday after Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday was a day of special offers from merchants on the Internet. Now, in its third year is Free Shipping Day, which occurs on Friday, Dec. 17.
On Free Shipping Day a number of major merchants will be offering free shipping with delivery by Christmas Eve.
"With a Saturday Christmas denying shoppers and merchants an additional weekend of sales this year, retailers big and small are hungry to extend the holiday shopping season. The solution? Free shipping," stated the Free Shipping Day website.
