Local teams to compete in tourney

Eight Lawrence County senior high basketball teams are among the field of participants in the 64th annual NEA Tournament, which begins Dec. 22 at the Arkansas State University Convocation Center in Jonesboro.

Opening-round games in the boys bracket involving county teams include: No. 13 Hillcrest vs. Crowley's Ridge Academy, No. 21 Walnut Ridge vs. Tuckerman, and No. 22 Sloan-Hendrix vs. Rector.

Games in the girls bracket include: No. 13 Walnut Ridge vs. No. 20 Black Rock, and No. 22 Sloan-Hendrix vs. Cedar Ridge.

The Black Rock Zebras are the No. 5 seed in the boys bracket, while the Hillcrest girls are seeded sixth. Both teams will receive opening-round byes.

Game times will be announced at a later date.
