Fourteen Walnut Ridge High School football players have received postseason honors following the Bobcats most successful season in several years.
Eight Walnut Ridge players were named to the 2A-3 All-Conference team, while six more Bobcats received Honorable Mention. Preston Matthews was named All-State, and Dallin Ginn was Honorable Mention All-State.
Head coach Larry Treadway was named the conference's Coach of the Year and is a nominee to be a member of the coaching staff at the All-Star game.
Walnut Ridge finished the 2010 season with an 8-2 record and shared the conference's championship with McCrory. The Bobcats received a number-one playoff seed for the first time in 33 years, due to their regular-season victory over McCrory.
Players receiving All-Conference honors were:
Preston Matthews (senior) - Matthews gained 1,000 yards rushing on 106 carries, and caught 13 passes for 170 yards. On defense, he recorded 14 tackles for loss, one quarterback sack and defended three passes. Matthews will play in the All-Star game at Fayetteville next summer.
Dallin Ginn (junior) - Ginn played tackle on offense and defense. He recorded 55 tackles, two sacks, 11 tackles for loss and forced one fumble. "Dallin brought a strong work ethic to practice every day, and made a lot of great plays during games," said Treadway. Ginn will also play in the All-Star game at Fayetteville.
Richie Ward (junior) - Ward played receiver and defensive end. He had 28 receptions for 407 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, he had 59 tackles, three sacks, two pass break-ups, five tackles for loss, two interceptions and forced one fumble.
Alex Williams (junior) - Williams had 38 tackles, one forced fumble and one quarterback sack. "Alex did everything we asked him to do. He is a great team player," said Treadway.
Teague Phillips (junior) - Phillips rushed for 510 yards and six touchdowns on 98 carries. On defense, he recorded 63 tackles, three tackles for loss and forced two fumbles.
Rowdy Ditto (sophomore) - Ditto played tackle and linebacker. On defense, he had 72 tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. "Rowdy plays smart and takes correct pursuit angles and makes big plays," said Treadway.
Eric Wilcoxson (sophomore) - Wilcoxson had 86 carries for 732 yards. He also caught 23 passes for 360 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. On defense, Wilcoxson recorded 66 tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and four pass breakups. "Eric has a way of finding the only hole to run through and gets up field in a hurry," added Treadway.
Payton Poole (sophomore) - From the quarterback position, Poole completed 98-of-174 passes for 1,253 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed 68 times for 318 yards and 11 touchdowns. He intercepted two passes on defense. "Payton took control of our offense and led us to a conference championship," said Treadway.
Those receiving All-Conference honorable mention were juniors Zac Carson, Jake Smith, Eric Huff and Shawn Seagraves, and sophomores Hunter Ingram and Hunter Yates.
