Williams Tournament underwayNathan HibbardStaff Writer The 52nd annual Williams Baptist College High School Basketball Tournament tipped off Saturday with seven first-round games in both the boys and girls brackets.
Marmaduke - S-H Whitley Boggs scored 26 points to lead the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds to a 62-39 victory over Sloan-Hendrix. Ashley Ward led Sloan-Hendrix with 10 points.
Viola defeated Black Rock 49-29 behind a 23-point performance from Michaela Thompson. Megan Jones led the Lady Zebras with 11 points, while Christian Ervin added eight.
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats won their opening game 51-45 over Maynard. Katie Lewis scored 13 points, and Ashley Baker had 12 for Walnut Ridge.
Hoxie's Lady Mustangs earned a 48-26 opening-round win over Tuckerman. Neely Ragsdell led Hoxie with 14 points, and Leslee Parrish added 11.
Viola - S-H Austin Gardener's 29 points led the Viola Longhorns to a 69-44 win over Sloan-Hendrix. Daniel Rowsey led the Greyhounds with 13 points, and Chase Dejournett added 10.
The Southside boys advanced with a 49-29 victory over the Maynard Tigers. Kevin Jackson led Southside with 17 points, while Jeff Skudlark had 14 to lead the Tigers.
Coy Yasler scored 18 points, and Zach Crisler had 14 to lead the Hoxie Mustangs past the Corning Bobcats 50-33.
