ANGEL TREE DECORATED- Hoxie second graders (left photo, from left) Weston Whited and Elijah Patterson hang ornaments they made on the Lawrence County Angel Tree on Tuesday. Second-grade students from Walnut Ridge, including Emily Kern (right photo, from left) and Emmalee Whitlow, also attended, and the students enjoyed singing several Christmas songs. The Angel Tree project provides Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the county. Angels can be picked up off the tree, which is located in the Lawrence County Courthouse lobby. Gifts need to be returned to the County Clerk's Office by Dec. 13.

Resident census down at LHNC

The Board of Governors of Lawrence Health Services met Nov. 22 and heard several reports regarding Lawrence Hall Nursing Center and Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Ridge Army Flying School

Before it became the campus of Williams Baptist College, it was the Walnut Ridge Army Flying School. It was a sprawling military base, a city unto itself, that trained some 5,000 World War II pilots.

She makes history come alive for her students and others. Sue Whitmire grew up in Clover Bend, and became a world traveler fascinated by history. She enjoys sharing her experiences in classrooms and with organizations she has served in through the years.
