FIRE CAUSES DAMAGE ~ A firefighter battles one of several blazes at Anderson's Auto Salvage on Monday. Hoxie, Walnut Ridge, Black Rock, Portia and Sedgwick fire departments responded after a grass fire spread to vehicles and other debris. There was no structural damage, and the fire was contained to a small section of the salvage yard. Firefighters were on the scene for several hours Monday afternoon, and Walnut Ridge and Hoxie returned that evening to extinguish a rekindle.

WR City Council approves
bonuses, fire truck repairs

Walnut Ridge City Councilmen approved end-of-year bonuses, discussed needed repairs for a fire truck and were updated on the Northeast Arkansas Intermodal Authority at their Nov. 9 meeting.

Hoxie to give bonuses

A Christmas bonus was approved for all Hoxie city employees at the Nov. 9 council meeting. Full-time employees will receive $100, and part-time employees will receive $25. Bonus checks will be issued at the employee Christmas party on Dec. 10.

Commission, Kelleys reach
tentative lease agreement

At a special meeting on Tuesday, Walnut Ridge Airport commissioners met with Allied AgCat owners, Frank, Terry and Dana Kelley, and reached a tentative agreement for a new lease for the building the Kelleys' lease from the airport.

Accident results in one death

A Swifton man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon at 2:10 p.m., according to a report from the Arkansas State Police.

WR runoff is Tuesday

Ed Lawson and Gary Kearby will vie for election as alderman for Ward 4 Position 2 in a runoff race in Walnut Ridge on Tuesday.
