Peak of fallAs October comes to an end, we are at the peak of fall activities. We should also be at the peak of fall leaf color, although this apparently is not the year for brilliant color.
One of the big fall activities, locally, is sure to be this Saturday's Iron Mountain Festival in downtown Walnut Ridge. The all-day event is packed with entertainment, food and lots of activities. The event will be the place to see your friends and neighbors, and the weather is expected to be in the low 70s.
With a half inch of rain received Tuesday morning in this area, the air is finally clear from the dust and smoke after weeks of dry weather. This will be an added bonus on festival day.
One of the most exciting developments this fall has been the Harvest Fest activities at Taylor's Greenhouse & Nursery, just south of Hoxie. It has been great to have a place to take children and youth for a fall outdoor evening of fun. This is the first year for Taylor's to offer such extensive evening activities. In year's past, they offered hayrides around their pumpkin patch for young children. continued...
