Senior Mustangs fall to Harrisburg
Sebastian Irvin connected with Cody Treadaway on a 13-yard pass for the first points of the game as Hoxie took a 6-0 lead. Harrisburg answered with a one-yard run by Kelton Costner to tie the game. Both extra-point attempts failed.
Harrisburg struck first in the second quarter with a Davis touchdown pass to Landon Meilke and a successful two-point conversion to take a 14-6 lead with 1:19 left in the half. Hoxie matched the Hornets, completing a 59-yard drive in 55 seconds. Irvin connected with Kenny Mashburn on a 36-yard pass for the score and ran the two-point conversion to tie the game at the half.
The Hornets then went on a run, recording 20 points in the third quarter while holding Hoxie scoreless.
Irvin ended the dry spell when he scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter to shave the deficit to 34-21. A 21-yard touchdown run by Harrisburg's Davis and a two-yard rushing touchdown by Irvin set the final score.
Irvin led the offense with 158 yards rushing and also completed 12 passes for 177 yards. Tyler Clement ran for 67 yards, and Mashburn had 15 yards on the ground.
Tyler Hall caught six passes for a total of 73 yards, and Mashburn had 56 yards on two catches. Hunter Flippo also caught two passes for 29 yards.
Defensively, Mashburn and Eric Moore each recorded an interception.
The Mustangs will play at Bald Knob Friday at 7 p.m.
