Lady Cats complete
Lady Bobcat Ashley Baker and her fellow seniors were honored on Oct. 11 during senior night festivities. Walnut Ridge recorded a win over Pocahontas in a hard-fought five-game match. Other seniors are Beth Massey, Amanda Emison, Whitney Ward and Ashton Lawson.

The Walnut Ridge senior high volleyball team concluded the 2010 season with a pair of wins last week. The Lady Bobcats outlasted Pocahontas in a hotly contested five-game match on Oct. 11, and defeated Harrisburg in a three-game sweep on Oct. 12.
The senior Lady Cats finished with an 8-6 record in 3A-Northeast Conference play and narrowly missed a bid to the state playoffs.
Walnut Ridge swept the Lady Hornets 25-18, 25-10, 25-21.
Ashley Baker led with seven digs and had five kills. Beth Massey followed with six digs, and Ashley Roacho picked up five. Ashlyn Cothern led all servers, going 13-for-13 with one ace, while Ashton Lawson served two aces. Katie Lewis finished with five blocks and five kills. Lawson and Cothern each finished with five assists.
The Walnut Ridge junior high team defeated Harrisburg 25-19, 25-10.
Anna Bland went 11-for-12 serving, with three aces. Makayla Daniels was nine-of-nine serving, while Hannah Massey and Baylee Bridges were each seven-of-seven. Rebecca Russell was five-of-five, and Stephann Petty went four-of-four. Caroline Kelley led with eight kills, followed by Bland with four. Sabrina Knight had seven assists.
The Walnut Ridge junior B team also earned a win at Harrisburg.
First-year head coach Janna Berry was pleased with the Lady Cats' season.
"One of our main goals for the year was just to improve, and we accomplished that. We finished with an overall record of 15-7, compared to last year's 6-13. Our conference record was also an improvement," said Berry.
Walnut Ridge finished the conference season in a tie for third place with Piggott.
"We just missed a bid going to state, but we did end the year with the tournament win at Harrisburg. The girls worked hard all year, they started winning ballgames and with that they had fun. I am so proud of them, and I'm very happy for the year the seniors were able to experience," added Berry.
The senior Lady Bobcats started strong against the Lady Redskins, winning the first two games 25-21, 26-24. Pocahontas fought back to tie the match with a pair of wins, 26-24 and 25-23. The Lady Cats rebounded to take the decisive fifth game 15-10.
Baker led Walnut Ridge with 16 digs, followed by Massey with 13. Lewis and Brittney Dobbs each had five blocks. Amanda Emison finished with 10 kills, followed by Baker and Lewis with eight apiece. Lawson led the team with 12 assists, and Cothern added five.
The junior Lady Bobcats defeated Pocahontas 25-8, 25-11.
Bland led with eight kills, and Knight had two assists. Bland and Kelley each picked up four digs.
Walnut Ridge also won a junior B match.
