Edith Chism

Edith Almeta Graham Chism, 87, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 17, 2010, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born May 27, 1923, in Pocahontas, she was the daughter of Albert and Dollie Maple Graham. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Chism, whom she married Feb. 1, 1945, in Colorado; a son, Donald Chism; a daughter, Patricia Roberts; and a sister, Othrine Warne.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Chism and wife Marie, Hoxie, and Robert Chism, Jonesboro; two sisters, Wanda Plemmons Bean, St. Charles, Mo., and Carma Mannon, St. Peters, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Donna Travis, Stacey Wells, Michael Chism Jr., Peggy Finley, Joey Finley, Nancy McBrayer Lee, Tim Roberts and Raymond Roberts; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 10 a.m. at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, Mo., with Rev. Jason Whitson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Rodney Luther Dobbs

Rodney Luther Dobbs, 38, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 15, 2010, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.

He had lived in Lawrence County most of his life and was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Vida Dobbs and Juanita Hancock.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cobble Dobbs; three daughters, Lacey Cobble, Brittney Dobbs and Raven Dobbs, all of the home; his parents, Darrell and Kathy Dobbs and Joan and Paul Rogers, all of Walnut Ridge, and Snoda Lee, Georgia; and six sisters, Deana Smith and husband Kevin, Sedgwick, Shelia Britton and husband Blake, and Melanie Davis, all of Walnut Ridge, and Teresa Quentenia, Kim Nunez and Lisa Huitanda, all of Georgia.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Steve Alexander officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Allen Blackwell, Eddie Dunivant, Kevin Smith, Timmy Carter, Scott Maronde and David Simmons. Honorary pallbearers were Marty Pace, Greg Pace, John McQuay, Randy Taylor, Billy Allen, Bryan Butts, Greg Minton, Brian Escue, Billy Meadows, Paul Allen Hancock, Robert Tribble and Mike Scott.

Memorials may be made to his children's education fund. Envelopes may be picked up at House-Gregg Funeral Home at 215 Southwest Third Street in Walnut Ridge.

Lena Murrell Powell Hinshaw

Lena Murrell Powell Hinshaw, 78, of Hardy, sister of Beulah Baldridge of Ravenden, died Oct. 18, 2010, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Miss. Funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Higginbotham Funeral Service in Hardy. Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery at Ravenden Springs. Emma Lynn Runsick

Emma Lynn Runsick, 73, of Swifton, died Oct. 12, 2010.

Born June 11, 1937, she was a member of Swifton Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dudley and Dovie McGinnis Gist; three brothers, Conrad, Bobby and Von; and two sisters, Bertine and Alene.

Survivors include two sons, Jason Runsick and wife Melanie and Jonathan Runsick and wife Crystal, all of Swifton; and a grandson, Griffin Runsick.

Funeral was Friday at 10 a.m. at Swifton Baptist Church. Burial was in Swifton Cemetery under the direction of Dillinger Funeral Home of Newport.

Alene Jones Shields

Alene Jones Shields, 75, of Sugar Land, Texas, died Oct. 8, 2010.

Born March 22, 1935, in Swifton, she graduated from Swifton High School in 1952. She received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and a master's degree in education administration from Stephen F. Austin State University.

She taught high school math in Houston for many years. After moving back to Swifton, she taught math and home economics at Swifton and Leachville for five years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ludy and Edith Jones; and her former husband, Jim Shields.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Shields and wife Maureen, Sealy, Texas, and Greg Shields, Falls Church, Va.; a daughter, Shanna Duffey and husband Tim, Houston; and three grandsons, Jason Shields, Tyler Duffey and Travis Duffey.

Funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Swifton Church of Christ. Burial was in Dowell's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home.

Elijah George Stiny

Elijah George Stiny, 96, of Burbank, Calif., died Oct. 15, 2010, at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice Stiny; a sister, Kathryn Stiny; and three brothers, Nick Stiny, George Stiny and Mike Stiny.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Stiny; three daughters, Patricia Stiny, Georgia Ratzenberger and Rena Powell; a son, Elijah N. Stiny; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Roger Brand officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Visitation is Friday from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service.

Ruby Ward

Ruby Ward, 84, of Tuckerman, died Oct. 19, 2010, in Newport.

Born in Powhatan, she was the daughter of Claude and Thelma Parks Billings. She had lived in Tuckerman most of her life and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Ward; three sisters; five brothers; and a grandson, Jason.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Beth Pharis and husband Jim, Tuckerman; two sons, Robert Ward and wife Sandra, Tuckerman, and Jim Ward and wife Teresa, Lacenter, Wash.; two sisters, Beatrice Zavec, Michigan, and Jane Moore, Texas; a brother, W.C. Billings, Piggott; four granddaughters, Sarah, Brooke, Heather and Mary Elizabeth; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Kyle Rhea officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Louise Lee Weir

Louise Lee Weir, 99, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 19, 2010, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab.

Born April 27, 1911, in Sharp County, she was the daughter of B.O. and Florence Brightwell. She was a childcare giver in her home for several generations and was a lifelong member of the Imboden Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Weir; two daughters, Mary Ella Weir and Joann Weir Starr; five sisters, Agnus Keanon, Ruby Bilbrey, Lellian Bratcher, Avis Stovall and Maxine Morganella; and three brothers, Ancil Brightwell, Owen Beach and Allen Brightwell.

Survivors include a brother, Eugene Brightwell and wife Geneva, Imoboden; a sister, Imogene Hancock, Walnut Ridge; three grandchildren, James Weir and wife Yolanda, Walnut Ridge, Becky Ewart and husband Steve, Jonesboro, and Randy "Mooney" Starr and wife Connie, Batesville; a son-in-law, Herbert Starr, Jonesboro; five great-grandsons; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral is Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Imboden Church of Christ with ministers Wayne Herrin and Herbert Starr officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery at Imboden under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2:30 p.m. until time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Mitchell Weir, Matthew Weir, James David Weir, Cory McDaniel, Mooney Starr and Jarrett Carter.
