HEALTH FAIR AND HVFD OPEN HOUSE HELD ~ April Carter (left) of the Black River Technical College nursing program checks the blood pressure of Kyle McGinty of Hoxie at the Hoxie Service Center. The third annual Lawrence County Prostate Screening and Health Fair was combined with the sixth annual Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department Open House and Safety Awareness Day on Saturday. Approximately 800 people were served free barbecue lunches at the event.

WR to receive sewer extension grants

Citizens in the Luther Bridge, Highway 34 and Midway Road areas of Walnut Ridge will soon be able to connect to the city's sewer system. The city has received $1 million in grants to pay for the bulk of the extension, according to Mayor Michelle Rogers.
