Lady Cats beat Cedar Ridge,
Newport, drop games to CRA
Walnut Ridge hosted conference rival Crowley's Ridge Academy in 3A-Northeast volleyball action on Thursday.
CRA won the senior high match 25-5, 25-14, 25-22.
For Walnut Ridge, Amanda Emison had 18 digs and four kills, and Ashley Baker had 17 digs. Ashlyn Cothern and Baker were each eight-of-nine serving, with Baker having two aces and Cothern one. Katie Lewis had six blocks and five kills. Brittney Dobbs had three blocks.
Walnut Ridge won the junior high match 19-25, 25-22, 25-23.
Sabrina Knight was 21-of-21 serving, with four aces and had 13 digs and eight assists. Anna Bland led the offense with 18 hits, three kills and 15 digs. Caroline Kelley had 15 digs.
The teams split a junior B match. Tristan Simpson was 10-of-11 serving, with seven aces and seven hits. Brandi Gates had five hits.
The Lady Bobcats earned a conference win with a three-game sweep of Cedar Ridge on Sept. 28. Scores of the games were 25-17, 25-11, 25-11.
Lewis led with seven kills and two blocks, and Emison had five kills. Baker had 15 digs, and Beth Massey had 10 digs. Ashton Lawson had five assists, and Cothern added four. Christin Holsapple served nine aces in 19 attempts.
Walnut Ridge won a senior B game 25-9.
The junior Lady Cats defeated Cedar Ridge 25-10, 25-21.
Bland was 10-of-11 serving, with five aces, and had six kills and 16 digs. Knight had three aces and 11 assists.
The Walnut Ridge junior B team defeated Cedar Ridge. Gates was six-of-six serving, with five aces. Makayla Daniels and Simpson each had four digs.
Walnut Ridge's seventh-grade team defeated Cedar Ridge 21-14, 19-15.
The Lady Bobcats traveled to Newport for a non-conference match against the 4A Lady Greyhounds on Sept. 27. Walnut Ridge swept the Lady Hounds 25-12, 26-24, 25-11.
Lewis led the Lady Cats' offense with 13 hits and five kills, and had seven blocks on defense. Baker was 21-of-22 serving, with an ace, and had 20 digs and two kills. Lawson had three aces and five assists. Cothern had four assists, and Emison had two kills.
The Walnut Ridge junior high team defeated Newport 25-16, 15-25, 15-9.
Bland was nine-of-nine serving, and had three kills and 17 digs. Kelley was 18-of-20 serving, with two aces and 16 digs. Knight had four assists.
The junior Lady Bobcats B team also won their match.
The Walnut Ridge senior high team participated in the ASU Playday on Sept. 25 at Jonesboro.
In pool play, the Lady Bobcats split with Batesville Southside 18-25, 25-19, and Doniphan, Mo., 25-10, 23-25. Walnut Ridge then defeated Southland, Mo., 25-15, 25-17.
During pool play, Baker was 17-of-17 serving. Holsapple served 21-of-22, with five aces. Lewis led the offense with 25 hits and 14 kills. Emison added 11 hits, and Baker had nine. Lawson had a team-high 11 assists, followed by Cothern with nine.
Walnut Ridge finished second in the Scarlet division and were seeded fourth in the Gold Bracket.
The Lady Cats opened bracket play with a 25-16, 25-23 win over Malden, Mo.
Baker had 16 digs, with Emison following with 13. Holsapple went 12-of-14 serving, with four aces. Lawson was 12-of-13 serving, with three aces. Lewis finished with a block.
Offensively, Baker had 14 hits with five kills. Emison had seven hits with five kills, and Lewis added one. Lawson finished with five assists, and Cothern followed with four.
Walnut Ridge advanced to play Bernie, Mo., and lost 22-25, 22-25.
Baker finished with 12 digs. Holsapple, Massey and Cothern went 100 percent serving, with each having an ace. Lewis had four kills, and Emison had three. Lawson picked up three assists.
Walnut Ridge defeated the 4A Trumann Lady Wildcats 25-20, 25-11, 26-24 on Sept. 20 at Trumann.
Baker had 22 hits, seven kills and 17 digs. Lawson had 12 assists, and Emison had six kills. Cothern was 15-of-15 serving, with two aces and had nine assists. Massey and Lawson each had an ace.
The junior Lady Bobcats defeated Trumann 25-8, 25-21.
Bland had seven hits and four kills. Kelley and Massey were each 10-of-10 serving, and each had two kills. Knight was 15-of-15 serving and had five assists.
Walnut Ridge also won a junior B match. Daniels was 17-of-17 serving for the Lady Cats.
