Booth registration underway
for Iron Mountain Festival

Plans are continuing for this year's Iron Mountain Festival to be held in downtown Walnut Ridge.

Festival chair Lorra Whitmire said booth registration is underway, and those who would like to be included can contact the Chamber of Commerce office to reserve their spot.

The cost for a fund-raising or vendor booth is $40, with an additional $15 charge for electricity, which is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no charge for informational booths.

Whitmire said the majority of the booths at the festival are local vendors or organizations and much of the money raised goes to support local charities.

"We are especially proud that the festival provides an opportunity for the community to support so many deserving groups," Whitmire said.

She encourages school clubs, church groups and civic organizations to either do a fund-raising or informational booth. For more information or to reserve a booth call 886-3232.

Variety of activities set

In addition to booths, the festival will offer live entertainment throughout the day including a martial arts display, bands and dancers.

An art show featuring Walnut Ridge and Hoxie high school students' work will be in the Lawrence County Library and a quilt show will be held in the Lawrence County Meeting Room in conjunction with the festival.

Attendees will have a chance to participate in a hot dog eating contest, dog costume contest, Mister and Miss Iron Mountain photogenic contest and bicycle rodeo. The Walnut Ridge Fire Department will also host its annual duck calling contest.

Other activities will include train rides, pony rides, inflatable games, Arkansas Game and Fish's laser target shooting and Powhatan and Lake Charles State Park's historic games.

Children are also invited to trick or treat at the festival between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m., as both Walnut Ridge and Hoxie will be observing Halloween that evening.
