Lady Mustangs fare
well at ASU Playday
The Hoxie senior high volleyball team participated in the ASU Playday Saturday at Jonesboro.
In pool play, the Lady Mustangs competed in the Scarlet division against Holcomb, Bernie and Piggott.
Hoxie opened pool play by defeating Piggott 25-15, 25-23. Brianna Liscomb had seven kills, and Kelsey Lewis had three. Amanda Whaley had nine assists.
In the second game of pool play, Hoxie fell to Bernie 20-25, 24-25. Alyssa Coggins had six digs, three kills and a block. Sarah Manis had four digs, and Lewis added seven kills. Liscomb had four kills and a block, and Whaley had 13 assists. Kayla Ward had five digs and two kills.
Hoxie concluded pool play by defeating Holcomb 25-16, 25-17. Coggins had three digs and three kills. Manis had three digs, and Lewis finished with seven kills. Maddison Woodard was 10-of-10 serving, with three aces and a kill. Whaley had three digs and 15 assists, and Ward had three kills.
The Lady Mustangs finished second in pool play and advanced to the gold bracket tournament.
Hoxie opened bracket play be defeating Batesville Southside 25-18, 25-22. Coggins had seven digs and four kills. Manis and Liscomb each had seven digs. Lewis had seven digs and five kills. Woodard had three digs and three kills. Ward had six digs and three kill, and Whaley added 20 assists.
Hoxie faced Piggott again in a semifinal match. The Lady Mustangs dropped a thrilling three-game match to the Lady Mohawks 25-21, 26-28, 25-27. Coggins had four kills and two blocks. Manis had 12 digs, and Whaley had 16 assists. Lewis had three digs and four kills. Liscomb had seven kills and three blocks. Woodard had four kills and a block. Ward added 11 digs and a kill.
In regular season play, the Lady Mustangs defeated Ridgefield Christian in 3A Northeast conference action on Sept. 21 at Hoxie. The Lady Mustangs won the four-game match by scores of 25-19, 25-16, 21-25, 25-13.
Coggins was 12-of-12 from the service line, and had eight digs and four kills. Devine Wilson was 15-of-16 from the line, with six aces, two digs and 27 assists. Lewis had 11 kills and two blocks, while Manis finished with seven digs. Liscomb had 10 kills and two blocks. Ward added six digs and five kills.
The Hoxie junior high team dropped their match with Ridgefield 15-25, 24-26.
Courtney Sears had three digs and three kills, and Grace Hall had two kills. Maria Fry had two kills, Madalyn Barker had one kill, and Krista VanKirk added four assists.
Chasity Kingsland had two digs, and Zoe Wilfond had three assists.
The Hoxie junior and senior high teams earned wins at Bay on Sept. 20.
The senior Lady Mustangs swept the Lady Yellowjackets 25-14, 25-14, 25-15.
Wilson finished with three kills and 10 assists, and Coggins added three kills. Lewis was 19-of-19 serving, and had three kills and a block. Liscomb had eight kills, Woodard had two kills, and Ward added two kills. Whaley had five assists.
Hoxie won the junior high match 21-25, 25-14, 25-17.
VanKirk was 17-of-17 serving, with seven aces. Sears was 17-of-17 from the line, with 10 aces and had four kills. Hall had two kills, and Wilfond had four assists.
