Hoxie, WR split games
Crosstown rivals Walnut Ridge and Hoxie met on the volleyball court Sept. 14 at Hoxie's Hicks Gymnasium.
Hoxie won the senior high match in three games 25-16, 25-10, 25-19.
For the Lady Mustangs, Alyssa Coggins had seven digs, three kills and a block. Kelsey Lewis was 12-of-12 from the service line, with seven aces, three digs and five kills. Kayla Ward had 10 digs and two kills. Sarah Manis had seven digs, Brianna Liscomb had 11 kills and Amanda Whaley had 20 assists.
For Walnut Ridge, Ashley Baker was 10-of-10 serving. Beth Massey was seven-of-seven, and Ashlyn Cothern was six-of-six from the line.
Walnut Ridge won the junior high A match in three games. Hoxie took the first game 25-21, before Walnut Ridge came back to even the match with a 25-7 win in the second game. The junior Lady Bobcats then won the decisive third game 25-20.
For Walnut Ridge, Anna Bland had eight kills. Caroline Kelley had five kills and 15 digs. Sabrina Knight was 15-of-16 serving, with nine aces and had 13 assists. Hannah Massey also had 15 digs.
For Hoxie, Courtney Sears had two kills and two blocks. Grace Hall had four kills, while Madalyn Barker added three kills. Zoe Wilfond had four assists, and Krista VanKirk had two assists.
Walnut Ridge edged Hoxie in a junior high B match 26-24.
Kortney Wayland was six-of-seven serving, with two aces, for the Lady Cats.
