Lady Cats earn victory in
tough game with Piggott

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats volleyball team earned its fourth win of the season with a five-game victory at Piggott on Thursday.

After dropping the first game 16-25, the Lady Cats won the next two 25-19, 25-21. The Lady Mohawks won the fourth game 25-17, before Walnut Ridge won the decisive fifth game 15-13.

For Walnut Ridge, Amanda Emison was 22-of-22 serving, with 10 kills and 24 digs. Ashley Baker had 40 digs and eight kills. Ashton Lawson had 15 assists, and Katie Lewis added five blocks.

The Lady Bobcats improved to 3-1 in 3A Northeast Conference play and 4-1 overall.

The Walnut Ridge juniors lost a hard-fought three-game match to Piggott 25-20, 24-26, 22-25.

Piggott also won a junior B match, while Walnut Ridge won the seventh-grade match.

Cedar Ridge

Walnut Ridge hosted Cedar Ridge on Aug. 31, defeating the Lady Timberwolves in four games 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 25-12.

Baker was 14-of-14 serving, with 27 digs and seven kills. Lewis has seven kills and two blocks, and Lawson had six aces.

The junior Lady Bobcats swept two games from Cedar Ridge 25-12, 25-4.

Walnut Ridge won the junior B match 25-15, while the teams split a seventh-grade match.

Ridgefield Christian

The Lady Bobcats suffered their first loss of the season on Aug. 30 against Ridgefield Christian in Jonesboro.

Walnut Ridge won the first two games 25-19 and 25-14, before the Lady Warriors came back to win three straight games 25-23, 25-23, 15-10.

For the Lady Bobcats, Baker was 23-of-23 serving, and had 45 digs. Lewis had eight kills and seven blocks. Ashlyn Cothern served six aces, and Lawson had 11 assists.

Ridgefield Christian also won the junior high match. Ridgefield took the opening game 25-8, before the junior Lady Cats rallied to win the second 25-22. Ridgefield then won the decisive third game 25-15.

For Walnut Ridge, Caroline Kelley had 32 digs and three kills. Raven Dobbs had three aces, and Sabrina Knight had five assists.

The junior high B teams split a pair of games, with Ridgefield winning 18-16 and Walnut Ridge claiming a 25-15 win.
